To be fair they DID tell you why they're all different :)
There's a german dish called Spatzle which is made in a similar way - they have a kind of batter that you drop through a colander into boiling water, then drain and fry them :)
that's really impressive..
This gives me an idea. make a corn flour based batter, drop it though a colander into a deepfat fryer, drain once they're golden and flavour.
Probably tastes minging, actually.
