Bill's Produce Store and cafe, Brighton - Review : They must be laughing all the way to the organic produce bank

You might think I was advertising Bill's Produce Store; well if Bill's cafe wasn't overpriced, overcrowded, and pretentious then I might be. I actually enjoyed the food that was served to me in this old warehouse turned cafe; I couldn't fault the chefs. The deserts are hugely over the top affairs and lovely to look at.
It was the attitude of the company that I took offence to. Don't let Bill's organic "come join our family" marketing fool you.

After being charged extra for a spoonful of maple syrup, I wouldnt suggest
Bill's cafe to anyone. Their prices sit on the high end of the scale, so they shouldn't charge extra for items that would naturally be included in a dish. Maybe its policy to serve dishes without the required dressings and sauces so that they can charge you for them afterwards. And the best part is that they dont tell you that youre being charged for these 'extras'. You expect these tactics in chain establishments but would hope for something better from a place that brands itelf in the way that Bill's does.

[And as a side note they are funny about people taking photos in their cafe... not as inviting a welcome as one would hope for. Shame on Bill's.]

They also sack their staff all the time, 3 in the last week. Most of the staff don't even get a free lunch or coffee and get paid the minimum wage. Happy families my arse. If my family treated me like Bills I'd get myself adopted

I've never actually eaten in Bills, the whiff of pretensiousness around it has always kept me out, but you've confirmed my suspicions about its ethos being more (expensive) style over substance!

I don't get why they wouldn't want pics of their food on the internet - my tiny brain can't handle the fact that a pedantic manager somewhere might worry about that to the extent of making a house policy. It is just so weird. The very thought is like the ultimate waste of synapses.
