Got a new tripod with some gifted money I got recently. it's well tasty.

Uni-loc 1700S, you may have seen it's little brother, the Benbo Trekker/One. This is bigger and better than the Benbo is, and I got it at a super-bargain price 'cos Uni-loc appear to have gone out of business, like any good innovative British company should do.. (in the bottom shot the camera is supported about 15mm off the ground, but it's rock solid even down there..)

my camera is envious of your camera's wide range of support. may it never fail you.

I've spent the last five years saying that. Then I (very randomly) found this one going cheap in Jessops of all places, and figured I'd sort the problem out once and for all.

Basically, my research* over the last few years revealed that you need to spend at least 60 or 70 notes to get something that won't break/wobble/be annoying. I personally would now suggest saving up for one of these babies with a decent ball head on it - they're well worth it. It's certainly the nicest tripod I've ever used.

* buying lots of cheap tripods in the hope of not having to spend a load of money. they're all crap.

Unfortunately right now I don't have 5 pennies, much less that kind of money. But t gives me something to aspire to since I want to take city night pictures and that would be perfect.

Oh, I know that feeling... I was lucky to find this within a few days of my ever-generous Dad handing over a chunk of his long-service bonus from work and instructing me to "buy something nice, and fun" with it. I've been drooling over the Benbo tripods online for months before that :)

Once I'm working again (if that happens) I'll have to bug you for a couple of recommendations on money spending for the D70. I think that tripod may be a must have.

You could tie yourself in knots with that thing, be careful.

i borrowed my fathers Uni Loc Tripod over the weekend. I am shooting a 100 macro on the new canon 2ti (550D) and let me tell you there is NO Better Tripod out there. I had thing spread all the way out and it still could support more weight. Simons camera in hollywood has them for $270. gonna pick one up this week if not today!!!
