took me a minute to see the person crouching by the rock. lovely shot!
Although the Lord of the RIngs was filmed in New Zealand, I don't think that any locations were in the Karamea area, which is where this shot was taken :)
This glorious area was threatened with roading a few years ago. Many of the locals couldn't see beyond the merits of a road bringing more people to the area. Like many areas in the World it faced destruction but a sustained campaign by the more enlightened New Zealanders has seen roading plans shelved. But who knows for the future there are always those who can't see beyond their own noses. We have to be vigilant in protecting areas like this - they are so easily destroyed for all time!
And people need to be vigilant for it to stay that way, indeed.
I missed this shot when you posted it, E - it must have been while I was away. Lovely shot of one of my favourite places in the world.
The future of our natural world is very much in our hands. I was one who led the campaign to save Lake Manapouri, the Heaphy Track and the New Zealand rainforests - it was a fight I was involved in for 40 years. Now, my ability to fight is diminishing and I appeal to people like those in these forums to become active. The speed and intensity of destructio is increasing but we have in the Internet the most marvellous tool to fight. We can reach every corner on Earth and not be subject to the biased censorship of the editors scissors. Go for it - I will go to my grave in the knowledge that I tried my best. Make it happen, make it happen, endure, endure, fight fight - NEVER give up! Our destiny is very much in our own hands - I pass on the challenge to you all. It is a worthy fight.
