The BBC finally axe Top Of The Pops after 42 years....the worse thing to happen to British TV since Madge Bishop died?.......or about time?

Sad, but probably time. It's been mishandled for the past 5 years or so I recon...

As soon as CD:UK came off air a shift to saturday mornings could have done the business... but I think it was always too self reverential towards the end.

Shame though that so many bands won't be growing up with the ambition of playing TOTP now though.

a serious shame. i reckon it was squarely the bbc's fault for injecting it with sacharine presenters and tailoring it towards kids. bastards! i think it peaked with blur playing 'stereotypes' while tripping on ecstacy. my girls uncle produced the old grey whistle test which has nothing to do with this but i can't help but mention it.

I think Sean hit the nail on the head about band's not growing up wanting to play on the institution that is TOTP anymore....that part is a shame.

But it had gone down hill so much in the last few years and the last couple of re-launched were pretty pathetic. Maybe now they can move Jools Holland from the Graveyard slot to prime time?

I want good LIVE music damn it! And I'm sure I'm not the only one??? Maybe this will start a swing in music television in the UK and we can get rid of the monkees who can't actually sing/play live?

Bringing back the Old Grey Whistle Test would be a great idea!

I will miss it, I've been watching it since the 60s. I also loved TOTP 2.
