It has been nearly 24 hours since I had my last ciggarette. I have been a
heavy smoker for over 30 years.

Wow, Twiglet, that's a huge step. Good luck with that, I know it's not an easy thing to do.

If you manage to do a week I *may* even be nice to you!

If I manage to get through the penalty shoot out without lighting up, then I will KNOW I've given up.....

Geodyne says:

Nail-biting stuff, yes?

You can do it. I have total faith!

Twiglet says:

It's now been nearly 48 hours. For any smoker out there who is thinking of giving up: Really it's not so bad, nothing like as bad as I thought it would be. The worst thing for me is I feel like I've lost myself as I cannot visulize or imagine me without a cigarette, it's like a part is missing.

By the way, as per the "Horizon" television programme on Thursday night on BBC2 I am doing this without patches, gum or lozenges. I'll let you know when I get to a week and when SFG starts being nice to me.

Geodyne says:

I've been watching a friend try to give up for some time now, and it's fascinating. He can go for days without a cigarette so long as he's not reminded of them....except for 9.30 every night, when he starts to get amazingly twitchy. Why 9.30? No idea.

Do hang in there. If you can get through the first couple of days, you're pretty much home.

Twiglet says:

Thanks Geo and everyone for words of encouragement. I'm a stubborn minded bitch, having got through the first miserable 24 hours I'm hoping I'll stay strong. The BS gave up a couple of months ago and to be honest.....anything he can do, I can do better... (except pee standing up of course!).

Main trick - tell everyone not to let you have one, no matter how much you beg after beer three

Good luck girl!
Give it your best shot, one day at a time, all those other cliche's, I hope you make it, you'll love yourself for it.
