They keep on flying, from the few of them that I could see (and the moths, who are feeding from our lavender right now). Butterflies are getting very rare in this part of the world, however :(

It saddens me too. Until I read the article I was willing to put it down to some subjective bias in my observation, but we have a big flowering buddleia bush (a well-known butterfly attractor) backing onto the end of our garden and I've never seen a butterfly on it yet, this year :(
