I'm here because it's a place where I want to be.

What do I do with my life - still pondering that, keep exploring the possibilities I suppose...

I do have another more personal moblog Vivupclose

Take a look at my daughter Beth's website...

food for thought...

Everyone, in some small sacred sanctuary of the self, is nuts. -Leo Rosten, author (1908-1997)

We think caged birds sing, when indeed they cry. -John Webster, playwright (c. 1580-1634)

There are two kinds of light -- the glow that illuminates, and the glare that obscures. -James Thurber, writer and cartoonist (1894-1961)

The artist brings something into the world that didn't exist before, and he does it without destroying something else. -John Updike, writer (1932-2009)

Some people become so expert at reading between the lines they don't read the lines. -Margaret Millar, novelist (1915-1994)

There may be times when we are powerless to prevent injustice, but there must never be a time when we fail to protest. -Elie Wiesel, writer, Nobel laureate (b. 1928)

Viv says:

Made me look it up - thought it was a pelargonium but didn't know why! As to which one - didn't keep the label!

The Geraniaceae Family includes the genus Pelargonium and the genus Geranium. The geranium flowers are symmetrical while the pelargonium flowers are not. The pelargonium flowers have a nectary tube behind the petals, the geranium does not.

The geranium {cranesbill} is generally herbaceous, grown in flowerbeds in gardens and dying down in winter.

The pelargonium {storksbill} is mistakenly called ‘geranium’. and comprises of nearly 250 species, nearly all of these species come from South Africa and from which our present cultivars {CULTivated VARieties} are derived.

Just been looking up the daisy - sure we had a 'common' name - the americans seem to call it the shasta daisy - not a name I recognise - several varieties of course - to me its an archetypal english country garden large daisy! But sure I knew it by a name!

Viv says:

Can see why D thought the pelargonium was an amaryllis - scale and leaves not apprent in my picture

OJ says:

Oh thank you Viv. Geraniums are one of the few flowers I would be able to name (I have some red ones) but I wouldn't have thought that pink flower was related....

Euphro says:

I love the clematis in the top shot :)

Don't pelargoniums have scented leaves too, which geraniums do not :)

swamprose says:

Euphro, pelargonium can smell like rose, mint, lemon, pine, apple, and someone told me of coconut. So far, no pizza scent yet.
