Hmmmmmm. Runs to the dictionary.

Armageddon: n 1: (New Testament) the scene of the final battle between the kings of the Earth at the end of the world [syn: Armageddon] 2: any catastrophically destructive battle; "they called the first World War an Armageddon" [syn: Armageddon]

1. Apocalypse Abbr. Apoc. Bible. The Book of Revelation. 2. Any of a number of anonymous Jewish or Christian texts from around the second century B.C. to the second century A.D. containing prophetic or symbolic visions, especially of the imminent destruction of the world and the salvation of the righteous. 2. Great or total devastation; doom: the apocalypse of nuclear war. 3. A prophetic disclosure; a revelation.

Yep, they're different.

This is a wonderful picture. I really like it.

Armageddon, by the way, comes from the plain of Megiddo, which is in northern Israel, surmounted by a hill or har. Armageddon is a corruption of Har-Megiddo, the town that sits on the hill. There have been lots of battles there, apparently as many as 34, including ones in the Twentieth Century.

Thanks, E. This talk was all spawned by Mandy's armageddon post - a newsbyte from CNN claiming a countdown to armageddon on Monday. :)

That reminds me of the whomping willow from the Harry Potter books for some reason.

Very surreal and very cool!

I have seen this tree before too. In a children's book, I think. But the sky is wonderful--dancing and very post-apocalyptic, like us. Great shot, P.
