ahhh, I have always wanted a Maine Coon...they are very big cats I have heard....and they act more like dogs ( minus the barking) is that what you have found?

Well, my wife and I have had two Maine Coons. This one, we got as a kitten and have had since he was only about two months old. The other, we got well into his adulthood as a shelter rescue. The two of them have been very different in temperment. They're both very sweet and generally gentle-natured, and I think the main difference is due to this one (Oliver) still being a kitten. He's more rowdy than the other, more playful and active. I don't find that Coonies act anything like dogs; they're still quite cattish. They probably fall into the middle of the "vocal" range of cats and of course vary by individual. When they meow, you'll hear it, that's for sure. As for size, Coonies are one of the largest breeds of housecats. You do need to be on the lookout for kidney issues with them, but other than that, I cannot recommend them highly enough for cat fanciers.
