They're some kind of powder coated space-alloy. I really dig them, they're cool. The spokes are flat profile as well, for smooth air-chopping. Once it's got a computer and some clips on the pedals tomorrow, I'll see how fast it really is.

It is pretty light, but nothing on how light it will be when I ditch those nasty straight steel forks for some nice vibration damping carbon on there... : )

You gonna go for some suspension? (can't imagine that being lighter)...the friends I have that mountain bike are all downhillers, so toeclips are a no no, but I feel strangely unsafe on a bike without toeclips, I constantly expect to slip off the pedal and get hit in the calf by it ...ouchy

Yeah, I get the exact same thing without clips, I feel all out of control and stuff. I was thinking about fitting cleats, but then I saw the price of the shoes to go with it..

The new forks are just standard fork shape, but because they're carbon, they're light as hell and they really damp the vibration down nicely. No good for jumping off logs, but then neither is the rest of the bike - those are thin little road wheels on there, hence the need from some damping.

I've got a suspension seat post to fit tomorrow as well - it's a bit of weight, but it's worth it for the comfort factor.

Woo! That's swanktastic.... be careful with your fancy spokes though, I was considering a bike with vuelta rims and similar spokes (just cos they looked cool) but reviews seemed to indicate they snapped easily. They do look bloody ace though. And yes, toe-clips for sure.

Have fun!
