I need a change of scene. This set is in contention for the title of OJ's Most Uninspiring Set Yet.

paintist says:

ye gods.......poor sheffield. The second pic is very, um.....dramatic, and the top shot makes me feel sad..

OJ says:

I am painting it quite bleak. There are far nicer bits but those windows stuffed with rubbish just piss me off... it's mostly down to punters from a nearby "superclub".

15th Aug 2006, 10:38

paintist says:

yes, but it is bleak, and most of the time we are blind to it all, thats how it all builds up. I like the photos that show the darker side occasionally, contrast is good :-)

OJ says:

City Council/Objective 1 etc. would have my guts for garters. You're never supposed to show the unregenerated bits..

15th Aug 2006, 10:43

nige says:

not Gatecrasher, perchance, OJ?

15th Aug 2006, 10:47

OJ says:

That'll be the one. Some of that rubbish is flyers. I think the club sweep up the street, but evidently not where the other places the punters stuff, er, stuff...

15th Aug 2006, 10:49

nige says:

thats a real shame. sheffield seems like it's been stuck in that pattern for quite a few years, yet i think it has so much to offer. i went to Uni in Derby and spent alot of time there - it's a shame to see it like this.

OJ says:

I don't want to misrepresent Sheffield Nige. There are some lovely parts to the city and much of the city centre has been regenerated, these are some very selective views of rubbish. As for the Lloyd Grossman accident, I think that's just some student's shopping!

15th Aug 2006, 10:55

nige says:

hehehehe. Grossman, OMG. "let's look at the evidence..."

15th Aug 2006, 10:56

Joe (unable to log in) says:

Nige...I went to Uni in Derby as well :)...when where you there?

15th Aug 2006, 10:58

OJ says:

:snickers: - at Grossman, not the Uni of Derby.

15th Aug 2006, 10:59

nige says:

ayyyy!

man, this was a while ago. dare i say it, but i graduated 10 years ago this year! were you based in kedleston road?

15th Aug 2006, 10:59

Joe (unable to log in) says:

heh that makes you younger than me!...I was probably still frequenting the place when you where there though....and yep kedleston was my main campus...lived right in the center of town though.

15th Aug 2006, 11:02

nige says:

blimeh!

yeah i lived in town too. forget the name of the road i lived on though, but it was a gorgeous townhouse in a not-so-nice street, i tell you. hartington street, if you know it...

15th Aug 2006, 11:09

Joe (unable to log in) says:

haha thats insane, we where on Friar gate...so not that far (met Shoes in the house on Friar Gate!)

15th Aug 2006, 11:14

nige says:

no way! we must have csrossed paths at some point. that is super-freaky, man.

15th Aug 2006, 12:36

Joe says:

totally weird...what did you study? the house we lived in was a converted nursing home called friar gate lodge....25 students in a house! (20 girls 5 boys woohoo!)

so somebody in the house may have even been on your course!

15th Aug 2006, 12:39

nige says:

i studied Film, Television & Media critique. i was based in the old church on Green Lane. we had our own cinema in there for screenings - it was ace.

sorry to hijack your post OJ. eek!

15th Aug 2006, 12:47

Joe says:

yep, sorry OJ...I'll email you Nige...one of my mates studied film...

15th Aug 2006, 12:48

nige says:

cool!

15th Aug 2006, 12:50

OJ says:

I did reply but somehow the comment got lost? Er?

Anyway, your chat is most welcome on my otherwise rather grumpy rubbish post.
