Oooo... cool.

Do you reckon the k800's worth the upgrade?

mat says:

pretty much, yes. you're using a what at the moment? It's a step up from the W800/K750, that's for sure, and obviously if it's an improvement on those, it's an improvment on anything else as well...

I guess it depends on how much money/contract extension/etc your phone company want to upgrade you.

I'm using a k750 (which I won from moblog, so if you want to run a competition to win any of these bad boys, that'd be great :-D).

Looking at the current (abismal) mobiles you can buy in Canada, I'm not sure if this'll ever be released over here anyway. I'm happily uncontracted at the mo, but I still get the Canadian system confused; for example, I get charged to RECIEVE calls over here as well as make them! Craziness. And my "pay as you go" gets cut off if I don't charge it up at least once every month, so it's pretty much a contract anyway.

I never thought about it, but RAB, you are the one person with dual experience--UK and Canada--so you have some idea of the differences in service, and phones. I need a phone and fast. Rogers offers a Sony Ericsson W810i. Do you have Rogers out west? I am about to bite. Service contract and all.

RareAquaticBadger says:

Yeah, we have Rogers but I don't like them too much. They don't seem to have the best plans, and most of the contracts are for 3-5 years, which seems a bit excessive (especially when you have to pay for part of the phone anyway. Also the phone will be obsolete way before you finish the contract). I think the W810's a good phone though (all my shots are taken on the k750, which I think is the same, minus a few bells and whistles), and Rogers has pretty good reception. It all comes down to what you want to pay, and how good the deal is.

I'm with Fido (which is, ironically, now owned by Rogers), and am quite happy with them. I found Telus to be the cheapest in price, but they don't use phones with SIM cards (!) so I couldn't get any decent phones off them (they also didn't have any triband phones so I wouldn't have been able to use it when back in England).

I'm always hesitant signing up to contracts because I don't use my phone too much. With the $20 fido pay as you go, it costs 5c to make and recieve calls after 7pm and on weekends, and 40c at other times. If you're a heavy cell phone user though, and the plan is right for you, then go for it!

RAB, thank you. I agree with you. Have to go do research, ridiculous comparison shopping, but I need reception outside of Toronto mainly, up north, and unfortunately Rogers has the best, and sometimes only. Lost in the woods, I need to call someone...but I am not a heavy cell phone user--just the last in my family and want it for emergencies. No plan for that, far as I can see. Will go shopping tomorrrow. Not hard, all stores are in a row, so I will just wander from one to another to get the best deal..: D

Mine has lost shots too, but so did the K750i, as soon as it does I cycle the power. I think that the K800 needs turned off and on a bit more often than the K750 did, but it is doing a lot more.

Nice shot Mat, it looks good enough to be a wallpaper.
