Vodafone Are Lying Bastards

So, I signed up with Vodafone on two main points:

I could use any combination of 250 SMS, 83 MMS or 12Mb of data every month, included in my price plan.

I could change my tariff after six months.

Now, it turns out that they're stopping the first one in September (not that anyone told me that), and I can't change my tariff until after nine months, despite being specifically told otherwise by the sales guy. Apparantly, nobody at Vodafone can do anything about this, only whine about how I should have been told and they're very sorry. I don't fucking want sorry, I want to have the deal I agreed to.

I am so fucking angry. I'm mere centimetres from cancelling my contract.

Spike says:

tis true.. most are!

theres just a select few that arnt. and seeing as though i dont do customer service at vodafone i cant comment,

needless to say its a fucking mess and i feel bad being a vodaclone right now!

22nd Aug 2006, 13:58

mat says:

I just don't like being messed about. I made a deal. I don't expect that deal to then be changed to something shit, without even informing me - it was pure chance I found out about this.

And the last CSR I spoke to hung up on me. Fucking fuck bastards. Frankly.

Joe says:

customer service is an oxymoron in this country, I'm considering moving to 3...since orange are now wankers as well.

22nd Aug 2006, 14:06

backwards lamb says:

is this not some sort of breach of contract?

i dont really know but how are they allowed to change it?

22nd Aug 2006, 14:07

spoon_lamp says:

this sucks. I'm with orange at the mo and have been for some time. Haven't experienced any badness from them yet.

22nd Aug 2006, 14:09

Spike says:

shit.. i dont even like being on vodafone. but staff rates i cant even say no! i must say that customer service in britain as joe says, its just shite. ive had many many bad experiences! and the fact of the matter is people remember bad experiences more than the good and pass that word on.

its a fucking crying shame quite frankly!

22nd Aug 2006, 14:12

540air says:

I got that letter too. Jumped straight on the phone and was told that they are busy creating new schemes for data etc. and that this is just a temporary measure.

Was also told that apparently, if you send pictures via email, (which is how I do it) rather than as an MMS, this will still come out of your data usage and therefore isn't affected by the changes.

Vodamone are a bunch of numpty fucktards all the same though. (Spike, and any other moblogUK vodaclones not included, of course :))

22nd Aug 2006, 14:15

Spike says:

i wish i could even begin to explain, but its not my department im afraid, im a network geek rather than a customer service drone! sorry

22nd Aug 2006, 14:18

mat says:

540 - that's not what they told me. they told me they're dropping data out of the allowance as of October and have no plans to replace the packages with something more approaching what I agreed to. More lies and idiocy and confusion.

Am considering t-mobile's Flext plan, but I'll have to cough up fifty notes for a bloody handset because I'm such a low user.

Whole thing is fucking stupid. I'm so cross.

22nd Aug 2006, 14:33

OJ says:

Oh mat I'm sorry. I empathise. I won't reprise the rant I had on your earlier thread, but I'm going into battle (AGAIN) with Orange this week. On account of them being lying-misselling-bastards.

I'm getting mightily unamused that phone companies now think they can rip us off with impunity and that Ofcom don't want to know.

22nd Aug 2006, 14:54

540air says:

I hope that's not the case. Over half of my monthly bills are data related!!

I've noticed with them in the past though, that the right hand often has little or no clue what the left is doing.

You call one number and are told one thing, dial back get a different centre and get a completely different answer to your question,

Don't know about you, but I'm on a business tariff, which gets me a proper number to ring and usually find things out, rather than the "pot-luck, could be any of about 4 call centres" crap that is dialling 191. If you want I'll email it over to you, might bring a better result?

Also, if you cancel the contract, wouldn't you have to pay up the remainder? (You'd get quite a pile selling the handset on ebay, which should cover that and more).

Totally agree, it's just dumb.

22nd Aug 2006, 15:03

mat says:

I'm still inside my 14-day cancellation period, so I can drop contract without penalty - but I'll have to send the handset back. Which will leave me phoneless for a while. And the hours I spent customising/setting up my K800 will be lost.

Stupid thing is that they changed the contract, so the deal *I* made is no longer legally binding. But that won't work, becuase it would then be Me vs. Vodafone's Lawyers, and I'd lose.

On a scale of one to angry, I'm right steaming fucked off at the moment. It's not even the lies, I've come to expect that, it's the amount of bloody hassle I'm going to have to go through to get this all sorted out. And I fully expect that something very similar will happen a fortnight into the next contract I take out, with whomever.

I tell you, if I ran the world, shit like this wouldn't happen. Or at the very least, someone would actually have to be responsible if it did.

22nd Aug 2006, 15:11

Steve says:

Don't they have to honour the agreement? can you ask them to pull up the phone recording that they always warn you about?

22nd Aug 2006, 15:12

mat says:

No. Apparantly they can change the terms whenever they like, and they don't even have to tell me.

22nd Aug 2006, 15:13

Salome says:

Drop your contract. They won't chase you for the phone, it's not worth their while. Just don't answer when they send someone to pick it up. They'll give up. They did with my flatmate.

22nd Aug 2006, 15:35

Dhamaka says:

I got that letter this morning. Merry hell to pay. Any information anyone wants to dump on me - plus names if you're vodafone users, I'm going to call them as a user-journo Monday or Tuesday and see if that can make a difference and am quite happy to try and get the same for everyone else too - in fact the more people I have the more credibility the article (if it comes to that) will have.

22nd Aug 2006, 15:53

Spike says:

im sorry for you all. im shaking my fist too, ill see how many CSA's i can slap as im smoking

22nd Aug 2006, 15:56

Joe says:

It's clearly all your fault Spike.

22nd Aug 2006, 15:57

Salome says:

Dhamaka: My flatmate called them up, told them she was leaving, and they said 'ok then' 'aren't you going to try to persuade me to stay?', she asked. 'well, if you made less calls, your bill would be lower,' they said. So she moved to another company. A week later, they sent a letter (after they'd handed over the PAC code) saying they were sorry to hear she wanted to leave, and could they offer her any promotions to make her stay.

Oh dear.

22nd Aug 2006, 16:05

Spike says:

Joe's right. its not Arun sarin that rules vodafone.. ITS ME!!!!

(*cowers from vodafone haters)

22nd Aug 2006, 16:07

540air says:

D - What type of info do you want? I'll happily give up as much as I can find out/know, if it means we all get a better deal at the end of it. :)

And there I was giving you the benefit of the doubt Spike. What next, changing the corporate name to "Spikeafone"? ;)

22nd Aug 2006, 16:11

Dhamaka says:

I want stuff I can quote - with or without names about how Vodafone has effectively ripped us of (leading question= bad journalistic ethics). The more details and the more history the better. Anything else you think might be useful - through my contact button rather than to my email please or it will get very messy

going to enjoy this

22nd Aug 2006, 16:15

and you know i can help!

Spikeafone - its got a certain ring to it!!!

tis true.. i AM a corporate whorebag!

22nd Aug 2006, 16:21

mat says:

They just offered me £7.50/month off my line rental to stay, which I'm tempted to take. That would mean I'm paying £5/month for 200 mins/250 sms/12Mb. Paying 31p to send the odd MMS isn't going to break the bank at that rate.

Part of the problem is that, although they're dropping MMS from the bundles, they don't have a new bundles to replace them with yet, so they can't offer them as goodwill gestures.

The other part of the problem is that I agreed to pay £X/month for A services, now it turns out I'm paying £X/month for A-1 services. Which is fucking rude.

Also, Vodafone are in breach of their own terms and conditions - they say 14 days notice for any changes, I only found out about this today (by pure chance, I got no letter), which is clearly less than 14 days from the 1st Sept. But then there's no real retibution for them breaking their t and cs - nothing I can do to punish them. I'm sure if I broke them, they'd be down on me sharpish.

22nd Aug 2006, 16:28

mat says:

Haha. I got a £10/month discount off 'em. That takes my current line rental down to £2.50/month.

Neat. Am slightly happier customer.

Dhamaka says:

OK, this is what I found out for anyone who is still worried and hasn't sorted this yet.

Vodafone are changing the bundle, but not actually for everyone. If you can convince them you're going to be a heavy MMS user they will let you stay on the old tariff. But there's a better way. On September 1st they are introducing the new MMS bundle and I've just got myself an indefinite free MMS package on top of the existing one - more bang for your buck, essentially! 540Air or anyone else who wants more info - email me and I'll let you know what I said and who I spoke to, but I've written the essence here.

hope this helps!

Hi, just stumbled on your Vodafone rant and it just so happens I've just left their 'customer service' department. Trust have no idea how incompetent this company is.

The bottom line is ££££ and they don't give a shit for the customers, except for how much money they can screw out of you.

The shops are inept, the delivery service is diabolical and the upper management stand around all day drinking coffee, having their pics taken and having 'award ceremonies'.

Don't bother ringing with a techy question as they aren't trained in it, and the tech dept are now not allowed to take calls or even answer questions. They can only respond by email (which they don't).

The pc system breaks down everyday, their mast sites are built and maintained by lobotomised chipmonks and most of the workers don't give a shit about you as the working conditions are so bad.

If you ring, you may be lucky and get the 1% of staff who care. More than likely, someone will hang up on you, cold transfer you back into the queue while they go or a fag or promise to email you back and not bother.

You have been warned!

This is the role of internet and if you think you are not going to get slugged heaps by any cellphone company for high data use you are naive. vodafonehater says:

We signed up for mobile broadband, following which we discovered that the service was terrible, it kept disconnecting and it was that slow that we rang Vodafone to rectify it (put through to India) and they messed us around for three months making us try different things (even though they evidently didn't know what they were talking about). We did establish that the signal in our area was fine, and that our USB ports were in full working order.

They then asked us to send back the dongle and they would replace it. The new dongle didn't work either. So after numerous other calls where we were asked why we hadn't sent the dongle back earlier (????? because we acted on THEIR instructions!!!) we got hung up on plenty of times (by obnoxious India staff again) and we had not choice but to put in a written complaint.

This was acknowledged and they made an offer to us.... Half price internet for the rest of the contract. Bearing in mind how terrible the service was we wrote back to decline this offer. At which point they wrote back to us and offered to cancel the contract for around £83.00.

Not ideal. But we had had enough by this stage, we rang them to accept this offer, and £83.00 was taken from our account. We also cancelled a mobile phone contract at the same time for a further £83.00, we had just had enough of dealing with Vodafone full stop. Within a week or so, the two payments were taken, and show on our bank statement.

So this was back in August 2009. It's now May 2010, and we have received a demand from a debt collecting agency for £450.00... In relation to unpaid Vodafone fees. Which was obviously news to us! We hadn't had any letters prior to this warning us of any issues. Rang the debt collectors and noted a dispute with Vodafone.

We then rang Vodafone to ask them what the hell they were playing at. Turns out that they don't keep records of letters/calls. Not our letters or calls anyway. Not only had they no record of my letter to them where I declined their first offer, but they had no record of any counter offers either, they also said they had not received our two payments of £83.00!! Which was taken from our account BY THEM on a DD basis. Took the bank statement showing the payments into the Vodfone shop where he rang and notified the payments team that the payments had in fact been made. But the payments team then claimed that they only made us one offer, that was the half price broadband. No record of the counter offer.

Due to their crap record keeping it's our word against theirs now, and I am taking legal action on the matter. If you are considering taking out a Vodafone contract DON'T BOTHER!!!

And to any staff who want to even attempt giving me grief on here just because you feel a maternal love towards that shit company try sodding off and get a different job, I am fully entitled to let others know my experiences and I pity you for working there.
