Well, it's not a long walk up to the summit but in all this heat and humidity it seemed like it would take forever. Part way up the trail is Reika-do (first pic) which according to the information is also known as the Eternal Fire Hall and there has been a sacred fire burning there ever since the year 806 when Kobo Daishi (a famous Buddhist monk) first lit it.
The Flame of Peace in the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park was lit from this very fire.
The second photo is of another part of the mountainside temple complex dedicated to Daishi.
