a nice random image to get you started:

i now have a FLICKR page too!

"why would a reviewer make the point of saying someone's *not* a genius? do you especially think i'm *not* a genius? you didn't even have to think about it, did you?"

"monkeys are superior to men in this: when a monkey looks into a mirror, he sees a monkey.”

"i am secretly afraid of animals.... i think it is because of the usness in their eyes, with the underlying not-usness which belies it, and is so tragic a reminder of the lost age when we human beings branched off and left them: left them to eternal inarticulateness and slavery. why? their eyes seem to ask us."

"we've all heard that a million monkeys banging on a million typewriters will eventually reproduce the entire works of shakespeare. thanks to the internet, we now know this is not true..."

african monkey proverb: "the day the monkey is destined to die, all the trees get slippery."

"i'll buy a bunch of monkeys, dress them up, and make them re-enact the civil war"

the proposition did not sound that appealing: a 90 minute film following just one player around a football field: 17 cameras following zinedine zidane during a real madrid match against villareal in april last year.

it turned out this wasn't just some glorified cinematic player-cam though; it turned out to be a masterclass in editing and sound design, as well as a
hugely expressive portrait of a footballer that not much is known about.

in this film, zidane appears to isoloate himself from the rest of his team - his eyes are literally never off the ball. for an hour, he doesn't speak to another player (he occassionally mutters to himself, however). the only time he smiles during the first half is when the opposition are awarded a penalty...

that the game should be so dramatic, or that the end to zidane's game be so firey, the film-makers cannot have known, but its in the quieter moments where we really see how zidane works.

i'd recommend this film to anyone interested in film-making, and to anyone
with even a passing interest in football.

sooooooo you are not convinced that his little outburst was to advertise this movie, as some cynics thought?
