Annie, the dog

Annie hates the camera. We go running or on walks every day. She is not patient when I stop to take photos. She is 15 years old, half Australian Cattle Dog and half Border Collie. She herds things. She would like to go on vacation in Yorkshire and help with the sheep.

She's actually pretty opinionated and sweet is not the first adjective you'd give her. We love her, but she does nip bothersome boys, or anyone who steps on her tail.

as would any sensible animal...

she looks like a herder. very nice dog...

That top shot is lovely Swamprose. She clearly has no desire to "nip" you.

thanks. I am learning to focus on the part of the photo that means something to me. Unlike some of my past efforts. Uphill climb.

You really have nailed the focusing on the top shot. I love it. What lens did you use for that shot?

12th Oct 2006, 23:08

swamprose says:

hello J. I used my one and only lens, which says on the inside: EF-S 17-85 mm. it was recommended with the camera, a canon eos 30D.
still trying to do it justice...any cattle dogs your way?

12th Oct 2006, 23:34

Jigalong says:

Thats a fabulous lens and versatile as well.

There are heaps of cattle dogs in the Pilbara, being cattle country (try googling "Red Dog Pilbara" for more info on Australias most famous dog) The dogs of choice around here are the red and blue heelers. Australians love their utes and love their dogs, and there is a rivalry between WA and VIC (2 states) for seeing who can get the biggest dog and utes musters. I believe WA has the record atm.

Aw, she's a lovely girl, and does not look anywhere near 15 years! She sounds like she fits all the stereotypical temperaments of both breeds. May she have many more years to herd and nip the unruly :-)

swamprose says:

J., thank you for pointing the way. good stuff. new thing for me to google was 'utes'. Never heard that before. So what happens at a utes muster?

13th Oct 2006, 10:41

Jigalong says:

Utes are the choice of vehicles for farmers, and so are typically held in a rural town. At a ute muster, not much happens. Everyone lines their utes up, and someone goes around and counts them.

Now what happens the night before is where the fun starts.

Oh, she's gorgeous! Mahtocante & Cachet are both half collie. They don't care for bothersome boys either. ;)
