because New Scientist is out on thursdays, and if I'm lucky (I am this week), there will be something exciting happening in theoretical physics. failing that, there's always something exciting going on in another field.

You should subscribe - it's cheaper, and they bring it to your door once a week. Plus you get full access to the NS website, which has loads of cool stuff on. :)
