clara says:

Tell us what happened then-did she sing into it?

29th Oct 2006, 15:36

char says:

the girl who spoke about the sweaty ears!!!??

29th Oct 2006, 18:21

char says:

obviously from the title of the post d'oh!

29th Oct 2006, 18:21

clara says:

Ah -silly me.What did Anna say?

29th Oct 2006, 18:23

char says:

the d'oh was directed at myself btw. paul was having trouble hearing himself and the crowd and he got a girl, who i guess was anna to explain that it was down to sweaty ears. which he had also had at the previous shows. i guess she went to all of them? Xx

29th Oct 2006, 23:09

clara says:

Oh I see,thanks Char!

30th Oct 2006, 09:00

clara says:

Perhaps I should stand at the side of the stage with some tissues, for emergency ear-dabbing.....

30th Oct 2006, 09:27

char says:

indeed. i remember when i was trying to direct pauls attention to the paper i threw on stage he was just like "thats as far as conversation can go" due to the sweaty ears thing. However, I persevered...he clearly thought i was an insane fan. Xx

30th Oct 2006, 10:51

zag says:

Anna's a friend, we went to Glasgow, Manc and Brum and know the sound guy, so we knew he had sweaty ears due to the headphones which mean his vocal goes right into his ear rather than through the monitors - less distracting, but it has its side effects.

(I only put it here to see if she'd spot it and kill me, really...)

30th Oct 2006, 12:36

clara says:

What was written on the paper,Char,if I may ask?

30th Oct 2006, 15:02

clara says:

@Zag-if the vocal goes right into the ear, does that mean it's louder, and would it damage hearing?

30th Oct 2006, 15:03

clara says:

The earplugs I wore filter sound and adjust to the decibel level.

30th Oct 2006, 15:12

ariane says:

It's the thingies that make you hear yourself.
When you don't have them you don't hear much of your own voice.

30th Oct 2006, 15:14

ariane says:

haha, that was the same sentence twice, practically. But I think you get what I said :P

30th Oct 2006, 15:15

clara says:

Yes,I do.However drinking alcohol can make you sweat alot, thus the sweaty ear thing.

30th Oct 2006, 15:43

clara says:

And I guess if you're singing too loud, and wearing the headphones, you could deafen yourself!!

30th Oct 2006, 15:44

ariane says:

haha yes but I really think it's the headphones.
When you go back to page no 3 and look at the picture batch on the bottom you can see them hanging round his neck.
I well believe those make your ears sweat :)

30th Oct 2006, 15:46

clara says:

Yes,I did notice those.Combination of lights,alcohol and headphones,I guess.

30th Oct 2006, 15:48

ariane says:

*shrugs* possible.
Does he drink before/during gigs?
Never seen that. Ok, last year it was one/two shots before the encore like, but that doesn't make you sweat I guess.

30th Oct 2006, 15:51

clara says:

Yes,he does.I saw it on the DVD and at Brixton,he had a half-finished pint near the drumkit,as well as water.

30th Oct 2006, 16:06

clara says:

However I can understand it.Wouldn't want to sing in front of all those people-pretty scary really.

30th Oct 2006, 16:10

ariane says:

ok :)
must be a lot though when that's the reason :/

30th Oct 2006, 16:11

clara says:

Yes,must be.I've done drama myself and it's pretty daunting in front of even a small audience. You don't know if you're going to be laughed at,boo'ed at or anything.(I don't really drink, either.)

30th Oct 2006, 16:15

ariane says:

uff, yeah that's true

30th Oct 2006, 16:15

ariane says:

Years back at school I was once part of a band project for an event (only background singer though).
That was indeed scary.
And I had all those stupid laughing kids in front of...Paul's at least looking at people who like what he (and the band) does.
Though it must be similar disturbing when a 14 year old shouts at you how hot you are :P

30th Oct 2006, 16:18

clara says:

Yes,I don't know if I could cope with that!I must confess though I would like to have a go at being a backing singer(secret ambition).

30th Oct 2006, 16:20

clara says:

It must be great for confidence.

30th Oct 2006, 16:21

ariane says:

I couldn't, really.
It was fun. But I would have rather been the second voice or would have played an instrument.
Me and three other were just standing there...like trees or something haha.

30th Oct 2006, 16:24

clara says:

It takes courage to get up on a stage.I remember I had to read a poem at a funeral address years ago,and it was quite an ordeal.
People seemed to enjoy it though and found it uplifting, which was gratifying.

30th Oct 2006, 16:26

ariane says:

absolutely.
woah, I fear I would have had a few beforehand if I had done that.

30th Oct 2006, 16:30

clara says:

I took Rescue Remedy.That helped!

30th Oct 2006, 16:32

ariane says:

I must admit I wouldn't want to go up on stage anymore.
I'd always fear the audience's not getting what I'm on about and be depressed after every gig..not a good basis for being a musician etc. I guess.

30th Oct 2006, 16:32

ariane says:

am in a rush se ya clara :)

30th Oct 2006, 16:34

clara says:

That seems to be par for the course though,a musician's life is very difficult.

30th Oct 2006, 16:35

clara says:

See you,Ariane!

30th Oct 2006, 16:35

char says:

@clara...sorry this might be a really late response...it was a note that said "please dedicate a song to my sister and I. the ticket was her birthday present. Charlene and Laura" and he read it out before "I want you to leave"...which was kinda unfortunate. was a mission getting him to see it tho! manages to get it bk after too...its on my wall with the setlist, get in! Xx

30th Oct 2006, 21:38

clara says:

Wow Char-that was something to remember and tell your grandchildren(!)

31st Oct 2006, 11:08

clara says:

How did you get the note back?

31st Oct 2006, 11:09

Spambot says:

Paul never drinks before a show. That was honey and lemon on the drum riser.
Nice one.

31st Oct 2006, 12:10

char says:

I was building up a nice rappor with the supervising bouncer at the front and just asked him for it. altho...as he brought it to me some girl tried to grab it out his hands. as if. and some insane girly tore the encore off my setlist which was clearly handed to MOI. well not really but i was closest and had it securely in my hand. jeeesh, so many crazies at the front of gigs. Xx

31st Oct 2006, 15:23

clara says:

Honey and lemon?Looked like the colour of beer from where I was sitting.

31st Oct 2006, 15:48

clara says:

@Char-looks like dog eat dog down in the front.

31st Oct 2006, 15:51

zag says:

hate to join in but it was stuff for his throat.

31st Oct 2006, 15:58

clara says:

How do you know,Zag?Are you sure??

31st Oct 2006, 16:05

clara says:

Honey and lemon mixed with beer,I suspect.

31st Oct 2006, 16:05

char says:

no i think it was honey and lemon. but thats mere speculation. bet paul is a boring straight. never drinks, etc etc. me and my friend were sure he was hammered at reading but i think thats cos we'd never seen them live. *yawn*

31st Oct 2006, 18:10

char says:

@zag youre a cynical fellow rnt you? lol Xx

31st Oct 2006, 18:11

clara says:

But she has a heart of gold(Neil Young.)

31st Oct 2006, 18:23

clara says:

@Char-come off it,honey and lemon,schlemon!!Beer's a different colour from h & l!!

31st Oct 2006, 18:29

char says:

seriously. i think hes teetotal...i mean can he just throw a telly out of the window or something pleeeease?? hehe, it was honey n lemon cos at brum academy he was all like "oooh my throat..im drinking this concoction etc etc" not having a go like... Xx

31st Oct 2006, 18:46

clara says:

Hahahahahaha Char! Char!what are you like?Teetotal?Paul likes a drink. He nearly threw a telly out of the window on the DVD,but we never saw if he did or not-he just kicked it instead.Have you seen the DVD?

31st Oct 2006, 18:51

char says:

yeah i have it! i did see that bit. he was clearly taking the piss out of how rock and roll they arent. love them tho. hey, yknow when lukas is on about the woman who pretends to be his sister?? is she on the forum? Xx

31st Oct 2006, 18:57

clara says:

I wouldn't know!I was wondering who she was, thought he'd made her up.Maximo seem to get all sorts and shapes and sizes of fans. And he mentioned some woman on the tourbus who stole the duvet...what did you make of that?No woman allowed on the bus,I thought.Seems he was jesting.

31st Oct 2006, 19:04

clara says:

Bound,if you're online, chuck us an email, would like to hear from you!

31st Oct 2006, 19:30

char says:

the woman on the bus was just part of the crew i thought? and she stole duvets cos it was cold on the bus? havent watched the documentary too many times to be honest but thats what i remember understanding from it.

31st Oct 2006, 19:41

clara says:

Yes,maybe you're right Char.Although I remember Lukas saying nobody knew who she was.

31st Oct 2006, 19:43

anonymous says:

'scuse me to butt in, just wanted to add my two penneth.
paul is far from teetotal on the old booze thing he doesn't drink beer and apparently he's a bit of a light weight.

oh and i think the lady on the tourbus might have been part of the lot that were filming X

1st Nov 2006, 19:02

char says:

feel free to butt in my lovely. esp. since you have an answer. doesnt drink beer eh? bit girly that. Xx

1st Nov 2006, 20:21

anonymous says:

he told me he doesn't drink beer, despite the pint in his hand, i said i did and he offered it to me.
i should add he was drunk when he said it X

1st Nov 2006, 22:14

char says:

that sounds like a fun exchange *jealous. who r u anon? Xx

1st Nov 2006, 22:17

anonymous says:

it was a terribly stupid morning. i had a sip and gave it back.
none one special char. if i say i fear my friend may slap me for telling the story X

1st Nov 2006, 22:28

char says:

now im reeeeeeally intrigued! your friend will be angry if you say who you are. god this blog is awful when you have academic deadlines...im not even saying anything interesting. and it was in the morning? ok, maybe they are rock and roll after all. Xx

1st Nov 2006, 22:30

anonymous says:

i'm a lowly art student love. she doesn't like me talking about it you see, apparently she felt like a gooseberry i dunno.
deadlines, rubbish! i've got an assesment next week for which i've done no work for oops!!

it was a gig/disco thing a few weeks ago, that particular moment was in the early hours. i should just stop talking..X

1st Nov 2006, 22:40

clara says:

That sounds like Han.If it is,your vinyl got to Polly, and she needs your address. If not,no worries!

2nd Nov 2006, 09:43

clara says:

I'm allergic to beer and red wine.
Just for the record.

2nd Nov 2006, 09:44

anonymous says:

nope not han, but if she's who i think she is, i saw her there, but she must have left after the bands. oh i really sound like a nutter now. i'm not honest.
my friend claims she's allergic to beer and red wine, but that was merely a hangover X

2nd Nov 2006, 11:30

char says:

if i was allergic to beer or red wine id just kill myself. end it all. red wine is one of top 5 reasons for being alive. it may even be higher than paul smith's white trousers...JOKE! i dont wanna get in trouble again Xx

2nd Nov 2006, 14:10

char says:

by the by anon your story interests me now. im starting to think you may have pulled paul?? hope im right! id say sell your story to "Heat" but i dont think they know who the park are, which is a good thing. hehe, i kid bien sur Xx

2nd Nov 2006, 14:11

Jenny says:

(i'll put a name as 'anon' is a bit silly)

if i'd have pulled paul i'm sure i would keep that story all to myself, hehe.. the only pulling that happened was into hugs and kisses. men, women and children, well not the children that's wrong and terribly perverse.

do you think heat would check their sources? i do need a bit of cash, but then again i'd have extreme quilt for the rest of my life X

2nd Nov 2006, 14:47

char says:

i really doubt that heat check their sources to be fair since they dont seem to be in the business of reporting truth. But i think maybe an affair with Pete Docherty would be a more financially profitable thing to fake "Jenny". Describe your affair as "drug fuelled and sordid" and explain how Kate Moss threatened to "deck you". That should make you some money. I take 25% for being your source of inspiration, I too am a lowly student. Xx

2nd Nov 2006, 15:36

clara says:

@Char-good God,what can I say?A hangover,that's very funny...
no I like white wine, the drier the better.A Spritzer's lovely. And champagne's my fave drink, but it can get me very depressed a few hours later.
Heat magazine?Don't waste your time,Jenny.

2nd Nov 2006, 15:39

clara says:

You'd make a good journalist,Char. You've plenty to say.

2nd Nov 2006, 15:40

whoever says:

'n he's a darn good kisser!

2nd Nov 2006, 16:01

char says:

@ whoever, psssht. bet he isnt.
@ clara, thanks, ill add that to my list of potential careers. i think im on 5 now..and only 8 months til i finish university-yelp! Xx

2nd Nov 2006, 16:18

Jenny says:

i'm quite a writer myself, maybe when i write my book there could be something about it, but highly embellished. like a **jackie collins novel...oh deary me..
you can have an insperation cut for definate char, us penniless students need to stick together.
anywho i need to get ready, going out to see if i can find another victim for that book hehehe X

**for the record i've never read a jackie collins novel

2nd Nov 2006, 16:38

clara says:

I have,she's basically a good writer,but contents very tacky.Depends on what you like,I guess.
@Whoever-please expand on that!!

2nd Nov 2006, 17:37

clara says:

@char-think about writing as a career-you've got a lively style online.

2nd Nov 2006, 17:39

clara says:

@Whoever-on second thoughts,don't.
Not wise to upset the fangirls.

2nd Nov 2006, 18:56

char says:

Maybe whoever is Paul going under a code name. Well, not really. But I would do that if I was famous for sure! Xx

2nd Nov 2006, 22:12

clara says:

Would he be that interested in this thread to do that??I doubt it.

3rd Nov 2006, 09:39

clara says:

If by any chance you are reading this Paul, please can we see a new Diary entry?

3rd Nov 2006, 09:47

char says:

well his name is in the title so...But then maybe he isnt completely self absorbed. hehe. Yes to the diary entry. Why not come and visit Birmingham and make it about that? Xx

3rd Nov 2006, 11:32

clara says:

I doubt if Paul posts on here now.

3rd Nov 2006, 14:58

Han says:

anonymous says:
nope not han, but if she's who i think she is, i saw her there, but she must have left after the bands. oh i really sound like a nutter now. i'm not honest.
my friend claims she's allergic to beer and red wine, but that was merely a hangover X

5th Nov 2006, 18:50

Zag says:

I'm no good at this today, been drinking. Apologies.

Who do you think I am, anon? I'm quite curious now. Are we speaking of the thing down bardens in dalston? That's all I can think of...if so, I left half hour after the bands, had to get my train.

And if you're a fellow art student...help! How do you find the effort? I'm suppose to hand in a hundred drawings tomorrow. I've done half of one. Well, it's more quarter.

5th Nov 2006, 18:52

zag says:

*supposed.

arse it! I'm running away from here again now...tata.

5th Nov 2006, 18:53

jenny says:

yeah the dalston thing. it got really quiet after the bands which was a shame, the music was great though.
sorry to sound like a stalker i'm not, lukas may say otherwise but nooo not me, honest.
my friend recognised you from brixton. where you with the girl who had the cake over on the left of the stage? i was at the right and tripping over young men to get to the bar most of the night.
i should really drink less, i had two hours sleep that morning and sodding crits in the afternoon, rubbish!

art students don't work, pah!
we'll i'm trying to fill two journals and two final pieces for tuesday noon so i don't think i'm the best person to ask about effort, but that's cause my course is interfering in my social life and is quiet frankly uninspiring. hopefully it'll get better.
what are you supposed to be drawing?

X

5th Nov 2006, 20:20

char says:

i always bitch about how i wish i was an art student. you guys always seem really absorbed by yr work and in love with your course where as in other subjects you're generally just fed other people's ideas. sorry this post isnt about the park but im just interested to find an art student disillusioned with their course. Xx

5th Nov 2006, 20:32

jenny says:

i'm only into my third month and i'm not enjoying it at all. it's all about silly little two week projects in area's i have no interest in. really i lost my interest in the subject two years ago because my teacher and i had a mutual hate for each other.
i love art but i hate the educational side.
i wonder how paul taught his classes, hmm..?

to keep it park related my tutor looks like duncan. i have to double take whenever i see him on the train, half asleep you never know what to believe X

5th Nov 2006, 21:03

zag says:

I like stalkers. :p I really wanted to stay...cfc is such a legend and I hadn't seen brewis in months but DAMNED TRAINS. (ahem.)erm...I was right in the middle, dead center for the gig but my friend had cake before hand. I'm being 'recognised'? That's quite scary. What was said? 'look, there's that nutter, let's go in the other direction' I suppose.
I didn't go to sleep that night (brix) until seven am. That night was mental...
Next time you recognise me come say hello though, it seems I'll always be about.

My tutors are all two-faced bastards. I haven't 'done' school since I was ten so I see them as people over teachers, if you get me, and it's impossible to take them seriously now. It all backfires upon me, but hey. I absolutely adore the art history side of things but the actual drawing literally kills me.
I'm supposed to be handing in four or five term projects. Thirty drawings on nature, twenty on hands, forty on...somethingorother...still not done any. It's my own fault, I spent the first two weeks of the course following park around the country and getting pissed.
Char...don't be an art student! It's all a scam, we all hate it. It is true though, you get to think rather than feed...:)

5th Nov 2006, 23:23

zag says:

Excuse me...got caught up in my rant. Why are you doing the course if you've hated it for so long?

5th Nov 2006, 23:25

anonymous says:

i think i saw you before the am drams then never again!! i was drinking too much as per, i ended up gripping the thigh of some poor bloke on route to the bar because it got in the way, then i was propped against a speaker stack during field music.
not much was said from memory just “weren’t they at brixton last week?” “i dunno maybe..YES! bloody good cake”. haha, that was great cake, i was starving so it was greatly appreciated whoever you are :) anywhoooo i will say hello next time.
have you ever spoken to paul while he’s drunk? his accent changes and he slurs, but doesn't stutter, err do excuse that tangent.

i like to hang around after gigs and we always miss the last tube so some sucker comes and picks us up. we went to the YCNI:M thing the other night to see peter and we thought we were ok to stay on someone's floor so hadn’t organised a pick up, but she never turned up or let us know so we were screwed, and at half twelve you can't get trains home. luckily after stopping to think we remembered we had friends staying in a studio who let us stay the night thank god!

i think i’d rather follow the park about than do anything. if it involved getting paid and pissed daily i’d definatly think of the career change, saying that i have taken it upon myself to stalk various people in london when i should be in class i found it a lot more enjoyable. i seem to be watching the clock counting down the seconds to when i can go to the pub.
i hate drawing i’m more a collage photographic artist and will be the first to admit i know very little about art, i’m on the course because i didn’t get in to the better course at leeds or edinburgh. so try try try again, i’m pretty much sticking it out so i can move away, hopefully to a place were i’ll have the time to think about my work rather than just throw it out.

sorry for the length and lack of gushing over the band people!

6th Nov 2006, 00:12

char says:

you two are interesting. im just going to sit back and listen to you while i wait for the new album. if this were the forum id rate you but alas...Xx

6th Nov 2006, 02:34

clara says:

@Jenny,re your post of last night
at 21.03-I read that Paul taught art to pensioners, after he qualified.

6th Nov 2006, 09:57

Jenny says:

cheers clara.
pensioners, what fun.
i was going to offer him the chance to teach my fine art course for two weeks, tutors probably wouldn't have been happy but i might not have fell asleep in class if he had, but that might have delayed this album further.
it's all finished to my knowledge, just need artwork i guess, why does that take like five months? i could do it for them :) that'd be cool wouldn't it.

6th Nov 2006, 11:39

clara says:

I see. My art mistress at school was lovely-she encouraged us in the class.I nearly went to art college myself, life drawing was always my thing.

6th Nov 2006, 14:53

zag(canedgraffiti-at-gmail-dot-com) says:

You make me smile, Char. :)

Do you mind taking this over to email, jenny? I don't really like this place...
