For me the most exotic person there was the woman in the second photo down. She is Yakut, from eastern Siberia.

Jigalong says:

These are all great portriats. Exotic all depends on your frame of reference, but the image of her definitely shows through the hardships and life that she has been throgh.

She was having a great time. She has lived in Toronto for four years. She is waiting for snow too.

One of the things that these say to me is that no matter where you live in the world, there are things that make us different and so many things that join us together like dancing and the intricate embroidery on all of the custumes. Each one tells the story of the place and people they come from, but that we share even the most basic of things like colours- all have red, yellow, blue, black and white....

There were Maori there. No one from Oz.

I got to talk sewing, beading and embroidery with some of the best.

all colours. wish it wasn't so hard for aboriginals here. Canada treats them shamefully. I am ashamed.

jesson says:

Not a whole lot better in Oz for Aboriginal people. Much work to be done to make things fairer.

Jigalong says:

Australian aboriginals usually paint themselves with ochre, a head scarf and not much else when doing their corroborees. So I'm sure it wasn't the weather that stopped them coming.
