Hi, I'm Rick also known as Mr. C. I used to shoot with a Canon SLR, but that was a long while back. I got a new camera, an Olympus SP-510UZ on 11/06/06. I've added a Nikon D90 with a 55-200 lens to my camera bag in 2010. I'll get a camphone if Almont ever enters the 21st century.
I'm now shooting with a brand new Nikon D90 with a 55-200mm VR lens.
,metal bits
,swarf
Nice - I love that stuff. Your brain says "sharp", but you still gotta touch 'em!
Thought that looked familiar in the thumbnail. Bit bigger than the swarf we produce at our place though :)
Thanks, Frog. I pick it up to take home for the wife. :)
Yes, very crispy, Nige. You can't touch it when it's fresh, it will burn you.
I think so too, Hari. Great word. :)
Thanks, Mandy. :)
540, we make swarf from microscopic needles to waaaaay biggers stuff than this. We have over a hundred machining centers. Caine says she still has some of the big stuff and will blog it for you. :)
Thanks, Swamprose. :) Caine says she's sending some to Factotum, and will send you some too.
this is a lovely pic in its own right but I love that 'swarf' is now a moblog tag : ) I must forward this to my dad, he was a fitter/turner in a shipyard and then worked in CAD so machine tools are his thing (got the scars and bits missing to prove it too!)
swarf rocks hard...
i still can't believe this stuff is waste. its too nice!
Over a hundred? That's some serious swarf producing capacity and yes, it burns a lot when fresh!! These days we only have a couple of lathes that get used regularly, so not as much swarf as in years gone by. I'll look out for the pics, thanks :D
Thanks, G. I hope it brings good memories back to your dad!
M-F. I can just see an animated cartoon 'Swarf Rockin'...cutting edge fun! It's just the same as potato peels, only recycled into new cars instead of compost.
Thanks 540-Air. Yes we make a lot of machines at work. I do use an old hand cranker lathe in the maintenance shop every once in a while. fresh pics are comin' soon.
JXL, Very photogenic and artsy crafty waste! It's fun to collect, only people think I'm crazy for digging through chip bins to find the good stuff.
