Sheffield Carols are traditional carols which are kept alive by singing in certain pubs in Sheffield and North Derbyshire. They're not your standardised Silent Night or O Come All Ye....they're Victorian carols which are specific to the area. This one sounds a little familiar but not quite the song you might already know...

I enjoyed that :)

OJ says:

Good :) I can't install Quicktime here so I can't tell how the sound quality has come out.

540air says:

I'm guessing it was recorded from your phone? It's not too bad at all really, I could hear what they were singing clearly and all the clever choir bits too :)

OJ says:

Yep, recorded on my K750i....I'm glad it came out well. Will have to try and install something to listen to it myself. Tis annoying that...

540air says:

Indeed you should :D

Euphro says:

That's great, and really interesting to hear the variations.

Once again, I come to you seeking K750i advice: How did you record a clip longer than 10 seconds? That's all I've been able to do with mine :)

19th Dec 2006, 16:00

OJ says:

?? Ooh I'm not sure I understand Euphro. Does yours cut out after 10 seconds? Mine doesn't....

Check your settings and make sure you're recording to memory stick rather than phone memory perhaps. It could be a memory issue perhaps.

Euphro says:

Thanks :D

Yes, mine is limited to 10-ish seconds (or less). I'm definitely recording to memory stick (1GB). It is a Voda branded phone. Perhaps they've done something to the firmware.

OJ says:

Sorry Euphro, I really don't know then... Are you trying to record clips in the same way I am ie. going into the camera, switching to video camera, hitting record.

Sounds silly, but just incase there's some shortcut to "record video" in Video DJ or something...

19th Dec 2006, 16:12

Euphro says:

Yes, I'm following the same route as you.

Either way, thanks, you've opened up a new possibility for me, in that I'd always assumed that 10 seconds was a hard limit: I need to do some googling :D

19th Dec 2006, 16:15

Euphro says:

*googles a bit*

I've sorted it out! :D

When you are in video mode, in 'settings', "shoot mode" gives you two options: MMS or high-quality. Selecting high-quality removes the 10 second limit. Excellent!

Thanks, you've done it again :D

19th Dec 2006, 16:27

OJ says:

Good for you. I think you'll find you sorted that out yourself. I've never had mine on MMS mode, I forgot that existed...

19th Dec 2006, 16:31

Euphro says:

I think that Vodafone might have chosen that setting for me :D

But, thanks for making me look :)

Thanks - it reminded me of my time at uni in Sheffield when we went out to the pub at Dungworth to join in the singing. It was the best bit of Christmas. Do you know if Lord Conyer's Morris Men still perform the Horn dance at Kiveton at Christmas - if I remember rightly they did it today - the Winter Solstice.

Heh. How funny - I've just found this searching on Google for 'sheffield carols' trying to find the ones we used to listen to when I was little (i'm in the middle of the Peak District and it feels Christmassy!).

Lovely to hear them again :D
