This is Helen Hill, and her husband, Dr. Paul Gailiunas. Helen Hill, filmaker and animator, was murdered, and her husband was shot four times. They have a son who is 2. Dad and son are fine. But Helen is dead.

Paul runs a free medical clinic in New Orleans.

These are the people that give us hope for a better world.

I know of them through my son, Chico.

New Orleans deserves better. It is the birthplace of so much music we love. A people that deserves respect.

It is hard enough dealing with Alex' death.

And bfish, our blog animator, is seriously ill, back in hospital.
edit--he's out.

hi d.
I hope this makes a difference for the people of new orleans, who unlike iraq, have had nothing really done to help them get over the massivfe disaster they endured.

SR, you're right - the sum of normal human misery is enough without the addition of fatal human folly. This is grim news & one can only hope the very best for her family.

I heard about this. It is a terrible loss. A good friend of mine lost his home to Katrina, and is still suffering the effects of that disaster as well as the pathetic response by our govt. I hope bfish recovers quickly.

The horror that the people of New Orleans are going through seems to have no end. They make such wonderful music and have such a rich culture. It makes me boil that this community has been abandonded in such a reprehensible way- and the good people like your friends have paid the ultimate price. Where are people's consciences????

And to bfish...hang tight. The world still needs you.

How appallingly senseless. Have just read (your son's?) blog entry you linked to. It's very moving.

I hope the planned march next week has some effect too.

All the best to bfish too.

read the link - no words.....

sadly few answers - only the will of the people can really change these situations - let's hope their is a lot of support for the march
New Orleans really does need a spotlight on it and a real movement to regenerate

so sad that lives should be wasted so senselessly
