video cam bonanza

accidentally bought two mpeg4 video cameras dirt cheap off eBay. the one on the left is a better camera, in theory, but it records video at a really weird size (should be 640x480, yet mplayer reports it as being 640x220 and displays it at that size as well - forcing the aspect ratio to 4:3 makes it look correct, but that's not ace). It records at 320x240 just fine. Which is odd. And annoying.

Any advice from video experts gratefully received. sample squashy video here

Yeah, it's nice n'all, but I'd rather have it not there by default. I can resize/crop to fancy aspect ratios later on, if I want to.
