saw a chap on tv last night eating roadkill......( i can't see the pheasant, so assuming it is flat....)

It was alive and well when I left it. You can just make it out to the right of the compost heap in the middle shot. My camera battery died just as I was trying to get a better shot of it :)

Theres nothing wrong with road kill, as long as you know when it was hit. :)
