I am married to Spiderbaby and live in Banbury, Oxfordshire after eight years living in the USA and Sweden. I am working and training as a clinical scientist for the NHS in Oxford.
There are now over ten years of photographs on my blog! It all started with a photograph I took on the 1st of May 2004... It's been a wonderful journey, thank you all who have shared it with me, and made this blogging community one I keep coming back to!

I thought it was fab, especially from the inside. Intriguing blend of the practical and the aesthetic, with a touch of the surreal for good luck : )

Then, with the greatest respect, you are mental. It's incredibly ugly, bits look like they've been glued onto the outside, there's no overarching architectural theme to the building, it's just a mess. The use of 'Scottish marble' (i.e. concrete) for just about everything makes it look like a relic of the 1960-70s.

I went to Stirling University, and now I'm at Essex - 1960's concrete prison architecture is in my blood : )

I like brutalist architecture too Crickson, though I haven't been in the completed Scottish parliament I have seen the pods glued onto the outside and I've seen pictures of their use as window seats, which I'd love to use myself.
As your fourth picture reveals, that concrete can be very warm depending on the light.

But seriously, I'm quite fascinated by this little beauty. Perhaps I like buildings that provoke a strong reaction...

I should do. My friend who lived in Edinburgh doesn't live there anymore, hence I saw a lot of the building work but not the finished thing.
