Jade Goody - Racist? or Socially Ignorant?

I'm not sure if Jade is a racist but she is definitely very, um, unaware. The Footballers wife however is even more stupid and a definite racist, also Jack (the boyfriend) referred to Shilpa as a "paki" which goes to show his intelligence; you wouldn't call a tanned white person a paki in the same way you cant really refer to an indian as a paki!
Danielle has said Shilpa cannot speak english properly, this is rich considering Jack didn't know what an embryo, or, sorry, EMVRYO, was, and in my opinion, Shilpa's english is very good. Yes, she has an accent but so does danielle but Shilpa has good vocab.
It's become more and more clear that this is a racial issue. Fair enough that they do not get along but when people are racist, it's unfair and wrong.
Big Brother used to call people into the diary room when a big argument kicked off, their has been several, excluding the remarks (racist and otherwise) and big brother has ignored it, if they think this will make good television they're wrong, i personally don't watch big brother anymore and only know what i do from friends/internet.

jade is culturally ignorant is all and she is far from alone. the fact that bliar answered a question about this balls during prime ministers questions is insanity. this is not news and neither is it important. it's been hijacked by the media and politicians to further there own agenda's. to my knowledge there were only an initial 200 complaints made to channel 4. the additional 13.000 complaints were generated *after* the alleged 'racist' incident was publicised. what we need to consider is what place are CBB and jade goody taking in the news. what should be on the front of the newspapers and heading news reports instead? what about china testing weapons in space or the arrest of Bliar aide Ruth Turner as part of the cash-for-honours inquiry? this jade crap is like news for kids. ITS NOT NEWS AAARRRRGGGHHHHH!

This may not be the 'real news', but unfortunately it gives us a snapshot of the UK in 2007, and raises points regarding education, and cultural & social awareness. If these points are not tackled in this country then we are all going to go down the crapper.

Of course they are .... I just do not like the way it has all been manufactured for the sake of TV ratings ..... racism and bullying are real issues, I come across them everyday working in a school in South East London .... I can't say, in my personal experience, that this has helped in any way ....

Oh yes it's all in the edit. The way you crop a photo, edit a piece of film or deliver facts and figures - you can manipulate them all to say whatever you like.

Apparently Jade did apologise to Shilpa, but C4 haven't transmitted that piece of footage.

I wish that this could be the final nail in the coffin of voyeuristic tv, but with the flames being fanned by the tv producers, this can only be the start of even more base television programming for the 00s.

These people are being watched by millions and they still act in a bullying, maybe even racial way. If they can act like this whilst being filmed, what the hell are they doing behind closed doors? It scares me that there are people being paid millions who act like this.

Jade is in no way racist. She's just who she is and by making many rude comments about her proves your incompetence and also suggests you yourselves are bullies. In my opinion Jade is being herself and there were no directly racial comments ever made in that house.

Every now and then I catch the show and the thought of a nation watching these little cubicles in hell make me think that this really is the decline of civilisation. We're watching people chew their toe nails and listening as they masturbate in the toilet. In a weird sort of way the racist Jade controversy kind of redeems us all as we condemn racism.

The Big brother show I want to see is the one where they are put in the house and not filmed for the entire three months. The only bit that is filmed is the moment they come out and they're told no one has been watching their antics.

Agrees.

I did presume that was Goode's reason for starting this conversation. Him and many more bloggers keen for traffic whatever the hot topic may be.

Attention/publicity is more important than content for many bloggers as much as it is for CBB. Discuss.

hmmn. I don't know that attention/publicity is as important for most bloggers as their content is. That idea is in opposition to why it is people blog at all I think. All of the programmatically generated spam blogs make use of this indexing loophole as best they can, but I can't think of an instance (aside from the fun and juvenile repetition of "BUSTY WENCH" on a certain moblog) where a blogger is using a hot topic to generate higher visitor ratios for that reason alone. In Goode's case, although he might have known that through our mega google juice his post would be indexed highly, I don't think he posted this with that only in mind; I think he really did want a discussion around this issue which he clearly has an opinion on.

JG is loathsome, of course she is - anyone so desperate for attention that they'll submit themselves to BB (twice) is manifestly an order of lifeform only slightly removed from parastic worms.

The only point worth discussing is why, when humiliation & bullying are the watchwords of reality TV, did the gape-mouthed BB audience only care about that fact once a pretty D-lister got tearful about it?
