And that's the original colour of carrots i think. They were meant to be purple in the UK but got genetically engineered (thru natural means) to be orange purely for marketing & commercial reasons. I've always mused to myself how strange it is that we may never see purple carrots in the same way that we'll never see dinosaurs - (can one really mourn an extinct vegetable?) - and you've just totally proved me wrong!

Just wondering...When I was in Kenya & Tanzania, all the fruit & veg looked & tasted slightly different...better actually!
That's how I knew they were definitely carrots. There was a kind of white carrot/radish thing too. That didn't taste much of anything.

I always thought carrots were originally yellow/white before the orange variety came from Holland and took over the entire western market.
