,onset of cyclone george
Cyclone George hit the coast at 10 pm last night, just east of Port Hedland. Good news is that its raining and it looks widespread.
Thanks for your safe thoughts. The fridge is full, and I have a generator with enough fuel to run for atleast five days, so all is well:)
Cyclone Jacob, looks like it may be heading this way also, but wont know for sure for another 3 days or so:
Well, the fridge was full of beer a little ago:)
There is lots of rain at the moment, so all the rivers should be flowing. Unfortunately the cyclone has claimed two lives:(
Grim news. :(
Glad you're OK, but pace yourself with the next lot of beers, what with them flooded roads & all...
Good news is that the Red Alert has been lifted. Cyclone Jacob looks like its next in line and should be hitting the Pilbara coast within the next 36 hours.
Thanks Hildegard for reminding me that roads north, south, east and west are all cut from the floods. That means once all the beer is sold from the pub, then no more, perhaps for a fortnight or more if Jacob dumps another lot of rain on us. I'd better go shopping :)
Hey J,
How's things this morning? HAve been without a computer for a week due to lightening strike so couldn't check on how things are with you. George sure left a mess. How did you go with the clean up? Did you get everything up before Jacob hit? The roofing sheets look like really good missiles in that kind of wind.
Well fortunately I live inland, so that by the time any cyclones hit, they are greatly weakened. Jacob hasnt quite made it to land, and its only a cat 1, so not expecting any dramas.
With road closures, I will be home till Easter.
Things could have been worse for you with the lightning and could have taken out your brand new a/c. Now that would have been bad:)
It managed to take the phone and my brand new, very expensive stove- I nearly cried! However, they're only 'things'. I hadn't heard that Jacob was down to a cat 1 so I'm glad you'll be OK. At least you can't complain about the dust for a while!
BTW Anne P says 'Hi'.
Hi Viv, as a Queensland politician once said "Dont you worry about that" :)
Say hi to Anne for me
Glad to see that you're surviving it well. But if you make sure the beer stays stocked up, it'll all seem like a gentle breeze and a spring shower!! :)
The danger has all passed now. The blame game is in full swing, with the two deaths in a mining camp. Finding out who knew what and when, why weren't people evacuated, were the dongas upto to specification etc, its a real witch hunt. :(
I think I have enough beer to last till Christmas.
That's not good. Can't they get on with trying to get things back to normal first instead of looking to criticise policies or procedures? I'd stick with my beer I think.
Some Aussie traditions will never fade... pollies taking centre stage while everyone else cleans up! UGH!
