I used to be on an e-mail list with a lady who had.....get ready for it....S&R; dachshunds (Lechee & Rascal - they used to have their own website but it seems to be no more). Their motto was "we go where the big dogs can't" and that was indeed their job - searching collapsed buildings and such, getting into the tiny areas that a person might be trapped in but the larger breeds couldn't get into.
