Spring was in my fridge. I looked at the black oak acorns which sat moist and cold since
December, at the back of the fridge.

Roots!

Black oak are getting rare here, so these make me very happy. actually wildly and unreasonably happy.

hi d. you are too fast. I am too slow. black oak. they are all really old and dying here, so new ones are valuable. at least to people like me.

You're not slow
Black oak.... A strong and romantic image... You'll nurse them?

I am worried I might kill them. There are not many of these babes around. Meanwhile they are back in the fridge. I so want to put one in a pot, but you are supposed to plant them directly into the ground.

Fantastic! You can always be mostly responsible, and plant a single one in a pot.

There's a white oak here in Georgia that has quite a story behind it:

I am taking very good care of them, but I could not resist planting one in a big pot. My personal barely portable oak tree :)
