Oh, I guess I just assumed he was your' I have seen several unflattering images of him on your moblog. Does he live with one of your friends? Also do you think that it is strictly a mental thing? Severus came from a farm so we were thinking maybe ringworm or something...

He lives here, but he's not mine. He's Xochizlan's cat.

Fur mowing is usually the result of an allergic reaction. However, even after the allergen is no longer present, the habit often persists. The most common allergen to cause fur mowing is fleas. Hydrox mowed her fur when I found her in Los Angeles due to a flea allergy. Even after the fleas were treated it took her a while to stop making herself bald.

Apparently, Gatsby had some sort of flea issue when he was still in New Orleans. The trauma of the whole Hurricane Katrina thing made the mowing into a neurotic behavior even after the fleas were long gone. He's been letting much more fur grow in lately, though. I'd like to think my cats (the other four *are* mine) are showing him a good example. Hopefully this is the thing that gets him to stop chewing all his fur off.
