BACKGROUND
For 20 years I have been making a note of the name of each pub or bar that I have drank alcohol in. So does my brother. This has developed into a full blown obsession, trying to stay in front of him. At the last count up I was 44 in front. I intend to keep it that way.

2542: Talbot, Chester (Date Visited: 24/12/06)
Popular back street two roomed local off the beaten track. Bagatelle table in the front room. Very smokey.
(Last pub before I started recording what I drank!) **

2541: Union Vaults, Chester (24/12/06)
Back street Victorian pub on two levels. Very popular with locals and with a number of real ales available.
(Deuchars IPA) ***

2540: Ring O Bells, Daresbury, Cheshire (24/12/06)
Very nice and popular coaching inn with a good reputation for food and a lovely beer garden. A number of real ales were available and I wish I could have stayed longer.
(A festive dark ale) ****

A great public service you provide here. If only I lived in an area where I could use your recommendations.

If I'd have known you were in Chester I could have showed you some much finer establishments!

By the way, are you looking forward to the smoking ban coming in? Do you think people will observe it?

ViX says:

Seeneboy - I can't wait for the smoking ban to come into force!!

Pubman... The Bells is my favourite pub in Chester. The Boot is quite old skool and The Victoria or The Cottage Inn are also pretty old man pubish! Not that I'm saying you're an old man of course!

Vix - I'll try and get to those next time I'm over. And I am old!

Seaneeboy - I am looking forward to the ban, it will be nice to get home not stinking of smoke. Speaking as a biased ex-smoker of course.

Let me know next time you're planning a visit, I might pop over for a drink! Before I moved to Liverpool for uni a couple of years ago I was a regular in The Bells, always pop in when I'm home!
