I've done lots of bits and bobs over the years, and right now I'm mostly working on this.

I enjoy speaking about things I like, most recently this. You can email me if you'd like, and I'm on twitter.

Otherwise titled: 'wheres my f*****g comics people?

really, its just awful. I have these huge glaring holes in my collection that it spoils the spirit in which comics were lent out.

at any rate, after a prodigious tidy up and review, at least i know what im missing now, and these images by no means represent all of those missing :(

That sucks Alfie, and it's the reason I very rarely lend *or* borrow books. I've had too much bad luck in getting back, and I've also had accidents which destroyed borrowed books - and wouldn't you know, both times they've been really difficult to replace!

Go after 'em with a bat. That's the reason why there's *one* person I'll lend a book to anymore - she returns them. I lost more books over the years to lending.

libraries are allowed to charge hefty fines, I think at the very least a bit of fingerbreakage should be permitted.

I always have the trouble of forgetting which ones I lent to who. I have the same trouble with DvD's. I get excited and want people to see things that I think they will like and then forget all about it.

It's like loosing a piece of yourself.

it's like losing a piece of yourself that you can replace relatively easily. but yeah, never lend anything to anyone, ever.

Nice one ES - might just have to get that...for the same reason. Lending these is hard to keep track of!

Cheers for all your thoughts folks, it's obvious we all have this problem to some degree.

Even if you keep lists, people can be really crap after reminding. There's one guy who has my first 5 collections of 100 Bullets as well as *all* of my Invisibles comics aside from one. He basically dropped off the face of the planet after I loaned them to him. He is a friend of a friend, who at the time begged me to lend him these comics as he couldn't afford to buy them himself. I must admit to almost feeling physical violence towards this person, after all the messages I have left him over the last TWO YEARS!

(update: I just remembered that he worked at a place called "A*****y Video" when I knew him. I just called and the person there totally sees him all the time! Apparently he has moved back into his parents place around the corner from there and she will pass my message and number to him. Wow, imagine getting all those comics back...)

Another time, I lent the entire Preacher run to this girl Kate, who managed Rockit, a clothes store I worked in part-time, after she declared herself interested in but ignorant of good comics. A week later, she disappeared from her job and London, re-locating with all of my comics to Brighton, never to be heard from since. Bad luck, or a wide ranging comics stealing conspiracy?

Books I am way less precious about. Everyone should read books, but comics aren't for everyone, and when I hear from a friend that they havn't read Neal Stephenson, or Haruki Murakami, I am eager to give them books on the proviso that they either get them back to me, or make sure that after they've been read they go on to someone else who hasn't read them.

I store all my books digitally and tend to read them that way too, so my hard-copies are almost totally for this purpose.

So what to do? Lists don't work, people disappear, and you are ultimately left with a £600 bill to replace missing comics!

Caine says:

Damn, Alfie. That's a bitch, no two ways about it. I feel about my books like you do about your comics. I have a very large library, and all those books cost money. Everyone should read, and it's grand they want to, but they don't do it on my dime anymore.

I have Delicious library, but it just feels to wanky using it.

"Rich says:

Yes, but you rarely get around to it.
