Eavesdropping on band rehearsals on the walk home I love that there's so much going on behind these ugly exteriors.

Thanks SLG. The soundtrack of the backstreet is a good perk to the late walk home. There must be other areas that sound like this?

You were in a band? Or you had an eavesdropping habit?

Both I'm afraid and more than one!

Used to play down at the Rock garden back in the very late 70's early 80's.

Now, this takes me back too...

My early visits to Sheffield (1989) were to work somewhere like this - FON Studios on Sheldon Row, behind the Wicker (knocked down in the early 90s to make way for that bypass thing up to the Parkway).

FON was on a first floor up a narrow staircase, over a forge - so you could feel/hear the rumblings as you recorded. It coloured the mood of what was produced there, without a doubt.

FON was also the spiritual birthplace of Forgemasters (more industrial references) whose "Track With No Name" was the first single release by Warp. Before Maximo Park were even a twinkle in their eyes...

Told you it took me back!

Ha! I had forgotten about your musical history Robin. I'm glad to have stirred some memories for you.

Speaking of which, I'm sure Grace would appreciate a Memoryshare contribution :)
