I'm here because it's a place where I want to be.

What do I do with my life - still pondering that, keep exploring the possibilities I suppose...

I do have another more personal moblog Vivupclose

Take a look at my daughter Beth's website...

food for thought...

Everyone, in some small sacred sanctuary of the self, is nuts. -Leo Rosten, author (1908-1997)

We think caged birds sing, when indeed they cry. -John Webster, playwright (c. 1580-1634)

There are two kinds of light -- the glow that illuminates, and the glare that obscures. -James Thurber, writer and cartoonist (1894-1961)

The artist brings something into the world that didn't exist before, and he does it without destroying something else. -John Updike, writer (1932-2009)

Some people become so expert at reading between the lines they don't read the lines. -Margaret Millar, novelist (1915-1994)

There may be times when we are powerless to prevent injustice, but there must never be a time when we fail to protest. -Elie Wiesel, writer, Nobel laureate (b. 1928)

Viv says:

the hole pictures are taken from where I sit at the computer fortunately I wasn;t there¡
and fortunately he managed to save himself from falling thro;
and fortunately my mac still works¡
lucky eh¡

Viv says:

my exclamation marks seem to be upside down¡ errÇ
something strange going on
anyone explain Ç - that;s my question mark and the latter should have been an apostrophe

19th Jun 2007, 23:25

OJ says:

The exposed lath and plaster and the shape of the hole makes for an interesting photo. I guess that's scant consolation. Don't know what to suggest about the Mac keyboard.

19th Jun 2007, 23:31

Viv says:

as far as I;m concerned it might as well all come down now - the time it would take to patch can be deducted from the cost - then we have time to sort electrics¡ A never ending story......

Helen says:

Have you got a foreign flag on your bar at the top of the screen?

Ganesh is not doing his job!

19th Jun 2007, 23:41

Viv says:

ah that;s the answer

19th Jun 2007, 23:44

Helen says:

Ganesh or the foreign flag? Had you gone Spanish?

19th Jun 2007, 23:44

Viv says:

it was spanish the cidilla should have told me! Yay!!!

19th Jun 2007, 23:44

Helen says:

Mine switches to American every now and again, but that is because I have scant control over my mouse.

19th Jun 2007, 23:47

Joe says:

Did the Bask seperatists hack your mac? :)

19th Jun 2007, 23:49

Viv says:

the whole thing was spattered with bits of plaster and dust and it was sort of bleeping so I was very grateful that it was still working - Shaun had sprayed the rafters with wood worm treatment and it had made them slippy!

19th Jun 2007, 23:49

Viv says:

no actually it was an irish/Jew!

19th Jun 2007, 23:51

Helen says:

My room is booby trapped...erk.

19th Jun 2007, 23:52

Viv says:

new floor's down now!

19th Jun 2007, 23:55

Helen says:

You would say that... if the trap is to work.

20th Jun 2007, 00:01

Viv says:

you're worse than Alan!

20th Jun 2007, 00:04

Helen says:

Of course. I'm his daughter.

20th Jun 2007, 00:06

swamprose says:

Viv! your blog central has been attacked! what is going on? The bathroom was not enough? Those look like pretty substantial long boards. I hope it's those very nice Yorkshire men I met who doing all the damage.

20th Jun 2007, 00:10

Joe says:

hehe a Helen trap...what would it be baited with?...books?, liefmans?

20th Jun 2007, 00:11

Viv says:

Shaun mainly - he was mortified when he slipped - it was lucky he didn't fall right through!

20th Jun 2007, 00:11

Viv says:

the flooring is great boards straight across - no pieces

20th Jun 2007, 00:12

OJ says:

Spanish? That makes no sense - the hole is clearly in the shape of a map of Africa. Check again: could it be Swahili, French? I hope you don't have any more mishaps. Collapsed ceilings are good for drama but bad for anything else.

20th Jun 2007, 00:15

Helen says:

It looks like an elephant head to me.

20th Jun 2007, 00:16

Viv says:

:D OJ

maybe it was Ganesh at work and it was a good thing - led me on in a new direction...!

20th Jun 2007, 00:19

Helen says:

Isn't that Shiva's thing?

20th Jun 2007, 00:19

Joe says:

Ganesh FTW!

20th Jun 2007, 00:21

swamprose says:

Personally, I would like to have seen a mortified Shaun coming through your ceiling.

20th Jun 2007, 00:33

Viv says:

He went with a hell of a bang and I'm sure must have bruises - but pride was the biggest loser!

20th Jun 2007, 00:35

factotum says:

Hmmm...taking done more plaster to get at the electrics is always tempting. I hope Shaun is o.k.!

20th Jun 2007, 13:38

Euphro says:

Wow! That is quite a hole. I'm glad your Mac survived, although the keyboard might need some hoovering :)

20th Jun 2007, 13:55

Viv says:

There's only a central light in the dining room at the moment and I need other electric bits done if the ceiling came down and stayed down for a while they could be done altogether which would be much more economical

and yes it does euphro!

20th Jun 2007, 14:47

MaggieD says:

Have to agree, that hole is very Africalike ..... looking forward to the pics of the completed project .... and if it is to the standard of the bathroom then it will be excellent :)

21st Jun 2007, 19:26

Viv says:

bathroom was planned and contained these changes are more basic, structiral - details as yet to be worked out!
