Cool - he was on Breakfast on BBC1 this morning, he's a good guy and I like the idea behind his shows- nice to see he was happy to embrace moblog!
Nice catch JC!
H - jc is a mod.
I thought that he lived out our way, saw him filming in our high street not so long ago. Fair play to him for doing a vid for you though :)
Yeah turns out he's a clapham boy and has just moved back to the area. Only been back 2 days!
These vids are well fun to do. I was thinking that with tagging you really can create magazines/collaborative documents - say of whatever is going on. If we chose unique tags we could actually skin the gallery pages - so they looked like publications in themselves.
For instance the daily me stuff could all have it's own skin. Or say if anyone else does any voxpop, tag it so and then we can make extended collections.
repeats: You can highlight your own pictures????
I would've highlighted one of the vids maybe. He's slightly more recognisable on the video thumbnails.
It's possible to highlight your own pictures, I thought mods in general didn't, although it's not unheard of.
An experiment in breaking the rules? Could you not just have asked how people would respond if that was why you did it?
as far as I'm aware, there is no "rule" against a moderator highlighting their own pictures...moderators are given the power to highlight what they wish to highlight, I've personally never HL'ed one of my own posts, but I think it's perfectly justifiable in this case.
I've never seen the rules Joe, so I can't comment.
I would like to though, as would some others. There's a forum thread on the subject. :)
I'm still trying to remember which of the many property shows Mr Littlewood presents. Can anyone enlighten me?
I've only seen him on To buy or not to buy OJ.
As for HL'ing your own things, I think that the rule of thumb is that a mod would only HL their own post if it is of benefit to the site. Like publicising an upcoming event, or in an effort to try and bring more traffic to the site.
I really hope this doesn't descend into another highlighting argument/bitching session.
One of the things I love about moblog is there's non of the usual bullshit you get in online communities...everyone gets on and keeps to themselves.
On the idea of being able to customise tag galleries...I think that could be a great idea - I mentioned to Alfie about getting RSS feeds for tags as well and he said it's something that would hopefully happen soon.
To have a Glastonbury gallery for example with it's own CSS design and an RSS feed catching images from all over the site would be brilliant!
James - totally with you. Was going to suggest that we try it out on the Glastonbury tag feed too. Just an entire specialist CSS for it, so it becomes literally it;s own gallery.
The same could be extended (if it's well liked) to dogs, cats, voxpops, cities - anythign really.
I also really like the idea of us being able to create our own sort of ezines through teh tags. So for instance dailyme - could be a branded/designed tag gallery - but then we could do the same for say citizen journalism stuff - so that sits in it's own theme (that looks like the daily papers or whatever).
They could be seen as bookmarks rather than tags and they could act as channels that people opt their content inot if they feel inclined. Rather than them being factored into teh tag cloud algorithm, they just remain as permanent differentiated features.
Like wearing tea cosies on your head - i'd love to make a bookmark/channel out of that weher everyone opts in a random pictures of people wearing tea cosies. Call teh channel cosycouture and mockup a mad hatter CSS design or something.
BTW tag galleries do have RSS feeds now, all you need to do is add "?rss" to the url.
So Glastonbury would be
http://moblog.co.uk/tag/glastonbury?rss
/>
Also did anyone know that you can tag images straight from your MMS messages? That's particularly useful in the case of events and journalism.
On the subject of so-called Citizen Journalism, is the Scoopt blog still around?
I'm loath to make any other comment incase I'm accused of bitching.
I always thought the communal spirit of this place was the opposite of people keeping to themselves.
Ah thanks for the RSS tip, that's really useful to know!
The email/MMS tag code is really useful I used to use it, forgot about it, and then Alfie reminded me about it the other day!
I'm going to create some tagged galleries now like yours I think!
OJ - Scoopt blog is http://moblog.co.uk/blog/scoopt.
Mandy - basically with tagging you could create a daily me gallery, that would aggregate everything and then you could skin those pages. But frankly this is all a bit blue sky fantasy at the moment, so don;t hold your breath!
The main point is share tags, rather than try and create unique ones or be overly accurate. And if you create unique ones like cosycouture or daily me, then share those & encourage others to use them to create a big collaborative project. New blogs or shared moblogs don't necessarily have to be set up.
Dominic you are cool!i love watching anything you are in on the box i am one of your avid fans, keep it up!stay cool luv you lots xx
