I've been thinking about this shot. Been thinking about how much I like the camphone shots for their sponteneity, the way they catch a moment. and how dead a photoshopped lovely still life is. just thinking..

swamprose says:

not sure myself. blurry thoughts, heh. it's about capturing moments, like the paco and I shot. look at all the flickr and zoomr shots. lovely, in focus, great colour, and for me, dead, interesting design maybe, but just lacking the part that reaches out and makes contact with you. the difference for me between a technically good photo and art. so there. going to paint closets white. most racist closets ever.

Is she saying that Art just happens in a moment of artistic perception and vision, without the artist having to labor or work on the image, thereby reducing it to the level of mere craft?

29th Jun 2007, 16:55

nige says:

ahh, now i see what you mean. perhaps thats the case, and if it is, then by definition, this is art. i didn't focus the camera - i just picked it up, aimed it at the tv, and shot. i just resized it in photoshop - nothing else. didn't have to.

swamprose says:

I am saying that for me art is human connection, and that beauty is nice, but cold. and that thing that connects is very hard to create consciously, that it takes a lot of work, lots of shots, and maybe once in a very long time, you get it, and when you do, you know it. :)
gotta go. movie time.

makes complete sense to me, swamprose, and i agree entirely. if we're lucky, we might just get "it" once or twice in our lives.
