Olympic champion Steve Williams, stroking a composite 'super-eight' that included the world champion four and pair, took nearly a length lead from a strong field over 1500 metres. Their power held off even the rival GB squad eight, who stayed within feet of the lead for several minutes.
For the other Olympic crews, it was silver Sunday as Britain finished second in four important events.
