our strange old dog refuses to go in her basket anymore. Weird or what.

Aw, Borris is so cute! Best ears in all dogdom;)

FF, I'd suspect that something about it isn't comfortable for her now. First 3 I can think of:

1) Too high a step for her to get into it
2) Not enough padding for elderly arthritic bones - and if her neck has arthritis, she may need a pillow.
3) Too drafty.

I'd suggest something like this bed, and put an old pillow or similar beside it to give her a step up onto it. I don't know if PetEdge ships to the UK, but I'm sure you can find similar beds over there.

Silar31 - i don't think it's any of your sensible suggestions. When we go out we have always left her in the garage (warm and attached directly to the house) where she has always been happy, she has now taken to sleeping in the plastic crate we store newspapers in before recycling. It is taller than her bed and in a draught. We have put an old quilt in it to make her more comfortable. I think she has a form of dementia.

Could very well be. They call it Canine Cognitive Dysfunction over here, in layman's terms, Doggie Alzheimer's. Next time you have her in to the vet though, make sure they've checked her thyroid function (for both hyper- and hypothyroidism) and checked to be sure she hasn't got hypertension - both are pretty common in old dogs, and both can cause symptoms which mimic dementia.

she has cushings disease and kidney problems. The vet is surprised she is still alive! Poor old lady

Poor old girl. Cushing's explains a lot. :(

FilbertFox says:

it's weird, she has perked up recently, more energy increased appetite. But her personality is different, there are flashes of her old self. It's her nocturnal habits and need to be let out in the night that is so difficult.

This picture was taken after he had already had a 4 hour "nap" on our bed!

We do tell him to pace himself but I dn't think Jacks have that mental capacity!

Minkey - she won't get better, she is on borrowed time now :'(
