For various reasons, I spent a fair bit of time in children's homes when I was a kid, the best of these was in Kent, some years ago I went back there hoping to give a bit of cash to help out with some extras, only to find it had been turned into a Luxury Hotel .... a different sense of sadness ,,,..
For me the sense of sadness was that priorities had changed, what was once one of the best children's homes for children in need from SE London (and compared to the ones we were put into in Deptford, they were indeed palaces) they were sold off to big businesses, converted into Luxury Hotels and lost forever to those most in need .... OK, rant over ....
:(
anonystupid was me
bmx and freestyle was always street though - if it ain't livin there it is somewhere else.
Para : Joni Mitchell, good comparison :) ... can't say I had ever looked at it like that ....
Maggie - Totally agree with the sadness of big business steamrollering what's best for people. As for the track? I think "Health and Safety" got in the way a little, but fortunately the land has never been built on, so maybe one day....
boet - It used to be that freestyle was a hobby and racing was the hot thing. It's still out there, just not as big anymore.
Para - It's still out there, I'm sure of that. I've seen enough kids on bikes to know it's evolved but still there. I still get a buzz riding my bike, that doesn't go away :)
Good call on teh song too.
I walked the route of the track, as much as possible. It brought back memories of some great racing and also some really fun times. I guess that although the place is not the same anymore, it still manages to bring back the memories.
Awww. :( It's good though it brings up happy memories and while it might be quiet these days, at least it isn't a parking lot.
This is like Juan Manuel Fangio and the Brooklands race track, only less old, and not so Argentinian.
