Waiting for the fang fairy

Advert

Caine says:

Oh boy, kitten teething. They are impossibly tiny aren't they? Little Oscar is growing up. Did he get a nice catnip mousie under his pillow?

hildegard says:

Not yet - they all say, "Not suitable for kittens under 6 months" on the packaging. Turns out though that ice chips are just what you need when you're growing new fangs...
That welcome advice from Vicenzo saved my limbs a lot of ragging. :)

Another good one, at least for puppies, is to take a facecloth or other small towel, wet it, maybe knot it, and stick it in the freezer for 20 minutes or so - long enough for it to stiffen up but not be rock hard, and let them chew/suck on that for a bit. The cloth will help pull out any really lose teeth, and the cold helps the discomfort.

I tried putting his plush mouse toy in the freezer after I washed it but he just left it to thaw. Unfortunately he now has an interest in all drinks with ice. Didn't like Campari & soda at all, mind you - bitter bubbles when he put his head in the glass. Sneezed for ages.
Reminds me to ask, Silar - would he see a much younger kitten as prey, do you think? I know of this 7 week-old in need of a home... Suspect I'd like to talk myself out of it - every shelter in the area is full though. Arg.

I doubt he'd see the younger kitten as prey at all...but any time two animals are introduced it should be with careful supervision.

Mrs Frog51 says the going rate is 50p - so far our old cat has coped well with two kittens joining him...

hildegard says:

He got a chewy toy which was well over 50p so it'll have to do for a couple of teeth.
Two kittens will fight together, one kitten is like living with Cato from the Pink Panther - I'm covered in scratches & tiny kitten toothmarks from surprise teething attacks...
Bless.
