The iPhone has WiFi (it switches to an open wifi network if one is available rather than an EDGE network)
The touch also has WiFi but no cellular comms.

If you havn't you really need to read Stephen Frys blog post on all things smart and Iphone, the guy went from hero to god in my books when I read it.
