Nige- I suppose so. I don't usually go for pricy headphones- I am *really* hard on the things. I have problems with earbuds (they won't stay in my ears and I'm sick of fighting with them) so cans it is.

Thanks, everybody.

i need to take the same tack myself, as i've mashed more headphones than i'd care to say. i prefer over the ear anyway, and they look better too.

in fact, sold, i'm buying a pair this weekend.

In all seriousness, I kinda fail to see a lot of the *point* in expensive headphones meant for a portable device. I mean, I can see noise cancellation, that makes sense. But really, you're not ever really *in* an "optimum listening environment" when you're out and about with your portable. You have cars, trains, noisy people, general day to day street noise, people talking... It's not like you're goijng to hear the difference between super excellent headphones and just okay ones. I just care that I don't have to listen to some screaming kid on a downtown 1 train, you know? I am not going to wank about the frequency resolution over a pair of $30 headphones. I just don't care. I care *MUCH* more that they're not going to break, won't fall out of my ears, and that they're not horrifically uncomfortable, as well as not impossible to replace.
