more retro me. scanning my old photos and posting them to facebook for some old school friends has been nostalgic, to say the least.

i was obsessed with basketball as a kid. most people didn't feel the same way, so outside of the gym at school, there were no outdoor courts to be found for practice. not like these days.

necessity being the mother of invention, me and a few buddies found a way to break into the the school gym at weekends (by way of an unsecured skylight) and we would play pickup games for hours on end.

even back then i was obsessed with jumping. my friend Billy was 6'1", and he was the first and only person in our team who could dunk a basketball. i was about 5'8", but i had some hops, and the two of us would spend time competing against each other to see who could jump the highest. first it was enough to touch the rim, but little by little we would go beyond (check out the bent rim).

i was there the first time he jammed it, but it took me a couple more years to mature, and i had finished school and lost track of Billy by the time i dunked my first basketball.

i'm trying to track him down right now, so i can tell him all about it.
