Shuttingdown Kingsnorth: Underneath the chimney

Why are we here? Because coal is the most polluting of all fossil fuels; it just isn't fit for purpose in the 21st century. No new coal fired power station has been built in the UK in over 30 years but now Gordon Brown may be giving the green light to a new coal rush in the UK.

your talking **llocks, get a job and put back what you take!!!!!!!!!

No new coal fired power stations for 30 years beacuse we haven't needed them! Now power generation in this country is at the point of out stripping supply which would mean blackouts everywhere we do need them!

Mark says:

Well done Greenpeace. All new coal plants should be banned, starting in rich countries right now. There's more than enough gas to act as a bridge while more renewables are built, and whilst we stop buildings leaking so much energy and phase-out big-engined cars. Unless we do all these things to prevent climate change, then the world will increasingly be in deep deep shit.

greenpeace says:

anonymous: whatever energy gap there is is mostly because of the inefficient way power is generated and used in this country. Every year, we throw away more than eight times the amount of energy supplied by all of the UK's nuclear power stations combined through inefficient end-use. This could be massively reduced with minimum efficiency standards on all electrical appliances.

That's consumer end. At the point of generation, two thirds of all the energy within fossil fuels is wasted as heat.

The new plant at Kingsnorth would be 45% efficient. Plants like Avedore in Denmark are reaching 95% efficiency by using combined heat and power.

when will you realise that CHP has only a limited value. The next stage will be people complaining about digging up the roads to transmit heat to villages and even small towns. CHP only works on a small scale and then only in a limited number of areas. We can't un-invent technology

Give up messing about will you. I think its fairly safe to say once the Police/Fire Services (which no doubt have been pulled from normal duties to deal with you) have cut you from the shackles of eco-friendly burden, the plant will fire up as normal! I mean come on, you guys probably got out of bed this morning with the heating fired up, had a hot power-shower, stuck the ketttle on, made some toast under you're electric grill, ironed ur clothes, drove to the site...etc etc! Unless u are Amish...give us a break and stop wasting Local Authority man power.

"For you, zee war is over..."

no power station is 95% efficiency by using combined heat and power. i no i work in one!

sort your lifes out

deepgreedude says:

Well done you guys n gals! Thanks for highlighting an important issue. Thank God there are people like you out there showing up all these politicians with their 'greenwash' and attempts to hoodwink the public into thinking they will 'deal with' climate change, when they are clearly in the pockets of big business interests like this! If we invested half of what we spend on dirty power into renewables, we could all have almost 'free' energy within a decade! That is why they want to perpetuate this antiquated system! Old fashioned greed! Great vid on youtube too! Well done all round. keep up the good work.

Protest properly

You have just lost my vote

Very clever green peace. NOT

Kingsnorth has reduced it's output and started it's oil fired station at Grain and will make thousands of pounds in profit as oil is far more expensive to run than coal.

HOW STUPID

if only they new what they are talking about.
renewables just burn shity waste that are high in carbon

mervyn: Immingham CHP plant is about to be expanded to reach the same electricity generating capacity as Sizewell B.

anonymous ("no power station is 95% efficiency by using combined heat and power. i no i work in one!"): Look up Avedore in Denmark.

tax payer says:

do you actually understand what other problems you are causing? you all need to wake up, smell the coffee & all stop sponging off of the hard working, every day people that are trying to live a normal life by GOING TO WORK! & paying for what you are doing. i don't suppose any of you work. you don't look like you do anyway & if you do then you are all hypocrites. you must use transport to get to work, where electricity is used etc etc. and where do you all live? by pulling the police etc away from the areas they should be working is a very dangerous situation. you are all selfish & stupid & are living in the wrong era.
if you want to make a difference then piss off & leave us residents in peace. do your protesting with a bit more fore thought & consideration for others!!!
