Here are some links that some people might find interesting.

LAFD has their shit together online, with a blog, an email alert system and a twitter feed. Excellent for people protected by them. Thanks LAFD.

LA County FD has a site, but they don't keep it well updated.

The Castaic fire is being handled by US Forestry and their incident page is here and it is kept well updated.

LA County road closure info in the area can be found here.

A decent map.

These are the radio stations recommended by the LAFD.

KFWB News 980

Orange County Fire Authority as online info and email alerts.

San Diego information (San Diego County
has it really bad)

San Bernadino County info.

The State of California has a fire site also, but it was down the last time I checked. Impressive.

Hey Tori, all I can say is Good Luck. Sounds like you're going to need to make a decision soon about whether to stay or go. Have you worked out an evacuation plan? When? Where? Will they take pets?

23rd Oct 2007, 03:17

Tori says:

Yes, we have a plan in place for ourselves and all the beasties.

Have the national guard turned up yet? When I heard that only about 1500 fire fighters were on this I couldn't believe my ears! One of the lessons that we've learnt in Aus is that you throw every resource at a fire the instant it starts and stay with it til its out. At leats you have some air support- that's always a huge help.

Every fire season now we import at least 2 if not more, skycranes (usually named Elvis and Georgia Peach- very cute!). They've made a huge difference in how our fires are fought.
