Ginger, my six-year-old 233 G3 Series, with firewire and wireless cards and a scsi (!) zip drive. She's dear to my heart, but she's old news as soon as Apple deliver.

Also note the "Jesus is coming - look busy" drinks coaster in the bottom left corner, what I was lucky enough to win at the Par-taay. 14 Days to iMac, and counting.

Staying out all night? Not saying "I love you" when hanging up? That kind of strange?

maybe it's going a bit eccentric in it's old age Monkeypunk?

Mine has also become grumpy, after a spectacularly bad crash almost a year ago.

Maybe she knows that her replacement is on the way... It's not like I'm going to throw her out, or even get rid of her, but she'll definitely slip down the rankings of my affections. Perhaps she's getting pissed off with the iMac G5 desktop picture she's got to wear at the moment?

Ah the PowerBook G3 is still a wonderful machine, it astonishes me the number of people that use them as their main machine and how much they are willing to spend on maintenance.

They are great machines to service, dead easy to get at the vitals, unlike todays laptops, sigh

@seaneeboy: yes, that kind of strange and it likes to play with the date and time config. so sometimes i write emails from back of the 1970ies or way ahead from 2040...

Sounds like it's a PRAM thing, monkeypunk. You may have to replace the battery as described here. You should be able to get a replacement from any major electrical retailer.

monkeypunk says:

well - the battery is missing - meaning dead for years now... - i should also replace the screen, but its just not worth it... would cost me more than a new iBook. so i use it till the end, i guess.

[ neel has a vision of the End Times, mac users huddled around crumbling, dead-pixeled G3 PowerBooks, networked uisng third-party wi-fi cards with WEP keys set to six hundred threescore and six, as the seventh seal is opened. ]

Creepy.
