"And as you cross the circle line,
Well the ice wall creaks behind
You're a rabbit on the run.
And the silver splinters fly
In the corner of your eye,
Shining in the setting sun.
Well do you ever get the feeling
That the story's too damn real
And in the present tense.
Or that everbody's on the stage
And it seems like you're the only
Person sitting in the audience

Skating away, skating away, skating away On the thin ice of the new day"

Barefoot in the Snow

seems to be my great good luck. :) I ran out to fill the feeders before it got dark (no, I didn't bother to put shoes on) and as I was putting sunseeds along the deck rail, I realized the male Hairy Woodpecker was happily eating suet. I ran and got my camera, and was fortunate enough to get very close. As a bonus, I also got a couple of very good nuthatch shots.

Caine says:

I say the same thing to you. :D Thanks. It was really neat, being so close. He seems completely unconcerned about people. The little nuthatches don't care about people at all - they zoom right past you to get seeds.

Oh, I've noticed the woodpeckers like the loud shutter noise of the D80.

May I say, Wow!, too :D

These are yet again superb.

Heh, Mandy it that ever happens, I'll contort myself to pieces to get a shot! Rick tracked in a feather from the Great Horned Owl I saw (but didn't get a shot of). I keep waiting for him to show again.

Thanks, Euphro! It appears that this pair of Hairy woodpeckers nests in a big cottonwood tree at the front of our yard. They both seem very unconcerned with us or our activities.

Mandy what else can we say about such super pictures

Caine you're a mad mad lady - barefoot in the snow indeed - but it is why we like you - such passion about your mission - you're a star!

Caine says:

Aw, thank you so much, Viv! I'm really lucky to live in such a small place, where the birds are abundant and not overly concerned with people. :)

095, I've always been interested in the local wildlife, it's hard not to be here. :) I finally have the right gear for bird shots, and the weather has been windy and below freezing for the last month, so going out and about has not been an option. Therefore, sit in a nice warm house and shoot birds!

Or, in this case - stand outside barefoot in the snow and shoot birds, don't realize how cold I am until I'm back in said warm house. ;D

I have always maintained that there should be a Wow button on our keyboards for such occassions ...

Caine says:

I agree, Arkangel. It looks perfect to me, it's so dashing, just the right touch. :)
