feral is a word I first heard in Australia. are they any kind of menace to native wildlife?

Feral in this context means that they were once captive/domesticated birds and they have bred successful colonies in the wild. People who don't like them say they are a threat to the local wildlife. People who do like them say they are not. As with everything, no one takes any notice of the experts. We love them. They are absolutely gorgeous, loud, sqawky and squeaky.

In this country any species that is half way successful is considered to be a threat so therefore must be culled....

When I was an undergrad I knew someone whose PhD was on the naturalisation and spread of these things :) They haven't made it to Leeds yet so far as i know.
Had to camp out the night at Ham House near Richmond Park a few years back and there were loads of them then. They were very special to see and very, very noisy!
